Ignoring reality on purpose
« on: May 01, 2015, 03:43:AM »
http://www.wellbuzz.com/dr-phil/dr-phil-stepdaughter-vs-bitter-widow-in-200000-catfish-battle/

It is obvious this woman knows she is being scammed. Nonethless she continued giving away all her money to the con artist- $218,000.  She sold her house and gave him the proceeds so she is now destitute. She said she doesn't care she prefers to live in her fantasy world.

Part 2 is tomorrow. I assume they will force her to face her poor decisions and reality.  They researched the scammer and plan to tell her their findings.

While this is an extreme case of people preferring not to face reality and not wan'ting to face they are wrong and got conned. I think it is still an example of why some people will make excuses for people and things instead of facing what they know to be true in their heart of hearts.

If someone puts too much emotional investment into a belief it gets to a certain point where there is no going back. It's the same mentality of those who strongly believe conspiracy theory or religions.

Where is part 2?

Not really in to programs like this, because in my opinion they can be false....

My grandmother always told me to keep my purse fat with paper even though you might not have much and never believe anything till you see it for your self.... ;D

Aww just seen that its tomorrow.

Is there a moral tale to this Scip?

It doesn't appear that way in this case?

Or miscarriages of justice?

When I was a young girl and still am  ;) I remember reading a story in our English lesson about the future and computers. The gist of the story was that one day we would be taken over by robots and computers.

Must admit back then I thought no way could this happen, but now I think differently...The computer has become my life, I work from it and I socialize on it.  I call that addiction as well as being on the mobile phone.

Life was so perfect before all of this technology. We would neighbour, go out to the pub on a regular basis, nightclub on a Saturday, friends were forever knocking at your door....Sadly we/I have drifted into a rut of accepting being on my own and see friends less often.  :o

That is so true.
I remember from my childhood in Iceland how much people socialized- your front door was always open, and so was everybody else´s. People actually sat down around a table or in the kitchen for a chat and a coffee.
Not so much anymore.  :'(

Is there a moral tale to this Scip?

I was busy this weekend I didn't have time to watch it. I taped it on my DVR.  This is it online though:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNP5bA7ZcmA

I skipped to the end of it (which is 30 minutes in) and they said they would try to get the FBI to look into it to try helping her get some of her money back. They also said they would try to give her mental help. So I guess they got her to finally admit she was scammed and will try to help her to come to terms with it.

They have done numerous shows on people who fell to the Nigerian scams but none to this extent.

It appears they split shows in half into 2 parts to get you to watch the next day.
