I'm afraid they boast of knowledge that they do not have most of the time. We have made very little progress in understanding the minds of people in 20 years and when you see people being released from prison by their recommendation and then re-offending does nothing for my confidence in them either. They for the most part are forever learning, but never coming to the knowledge of the truth.
I wholeheartedly agree. I'm sure I could do better myself at times when I see such nonsense in the newspapers or on the news about releasing them back into the public.
I remember watching a programme some years ago where psychiatrists were assessing their patients with a view to gradually introducing them to the outside world.
One in-patient talked so much he didn't stop for breath and the psychiatrist thought him a good conversationalist----------------what ? Sad,but what the patient was saying didn't make sense in the least and he used words which had no meaning to what he was saying. In the end,I had to question who the patient was here. There was no harm in the patient, but he clearly was nowhere near ready to join the outside world as he was agitated and would definitely have come to harm somewhere down the line.
