In AE's COLP statement,MM had stayed at Oak Farm at some time while working there,I wonder why he told AE that he didn't know Jeremy ?
Oh dear, uncle Neville had a habit of falling asleep in the chair with a lit cigarette as there were apparently burn marks covering the chair. Seemingly an officer had asked AE what brand of cigs he smoked ( for reasons unknown ) as AE asked why-----------no answer came the firm reply ? Mmmm.
This was after a remark JM had said about setting the house on fire.?

It looks to me as though JM had built up a story from other peoples' mishaps and poured the blame onto Jeremy, who probably said in all innocence that one day if his father continues to fall asleep holding a klighted cigarette,he's going to burn the place down, and somehow it got twisted into something that Jeremy was alleged to have said.,

A DC Barlow was very friendly with RWB. However,it came out that DS Jones told AE to take no notice of what DC Barlow has to say because he tells lies ?? Goodness me what sort of a motley crew were these lot ?

Anyone heard of used syringes/needles found at the caravan site,in the toilets ? AE had said that she thought Sheila was being sent away because she had depression, not a problem with drugs. Shows how much that family knew, doesn't it ?

All AE has done right from the start has jumped to conclusions over everything.

I think the Bambers must have understood that Sheila would need to be provided for all her life and short of the unliklihood of her finding a rich husband prepared to take on a woman with ongoing psych problems and a penchant for recreational drugs, the responsibility was theirs and it seems they were effectively passing it on to Jeremy. I can see he might be a tad pissed off by it.

If he loved her he would understand plus he was given an ownership interest while she wasn't so he did get something. His perception not the reality of whether he was being shafted is what matters though.

I'm fully aware of perception versus reality and I think Jeremy's reaction was typical of a sibling who perceives that they are being hard done by.

It COULD always be argued that if he was THAT interested in farming, there was farming to be had nearer to home that going to NZ to find it.
Perhaps you may want to discuss that kind of thinking with men like Chris Bonnington, or Sir Edmund Hillary who themselves had a sense of adventure? What is so strange about a son who wants to spread his wings and seek a bit of adventure in his life?

I was under the impression that he went to New Zealand before they were murdered?

I just gave those names as examples. My point was that there was nothing suspicious or particularly bad about a young man wanting to stretch his wings and experiment with life outside of the family business. Why do some keep vilifying Bamber for living his life the way he wanted to? Why do they always expect him to be a perfect saint when most of us do what we want to do and most of us did rebel against our parents at some point in our lives. Why keep pummeling the poor man about it. It's so much now that it stinks of ivory tower hypocrisy.

So? He felt like a change like most people of that age.

"So" the statement that he loved farming which is often quoted - doesn't seem to be quite the case.

Caroline, who keeps quoting that Jeremy loved farming?

But why does Sheila choose to write to Ann whilst incarcerated in hospital. It shows at the very least she does not bear any animosity towards that family,as well as recognizing that there was a stigma surrounding mental illness which necessitated clandestinity.

I can think of one person who mentions it all of the time and some others now and again - but I won't mention any names as I don't want the old saying to come true!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Who cares anyway? I don't like farming either. It's no big deal. Only for someone who hates farming sure doesn't show it when he orders his farmers magazine in prison. Explain that one if you can.

There's nothing wrong with any children wanting to get out and see the world, it's becoming increasingly common for young people to take a gap year and travel to distant countries. Surely this is how people develop and grow. Back in the 80s it was mainly children from well off families who could afford to travel and Jeremy was lucky to be able to do this. It may have been better and healthier for Sheila if she had been more independent and had seen other cultures instead of choosing the selfabsorbed and closed life of a model with all the pitfalls. Cannot understand why the fact Jeremy Bamber travelled to Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East has anything to do with proving he was planning to murder his family...........
