Sheila was being treated also for PMT...

Evidence emerged that Sheila Caffell was being treated for PMT, and was prescribed medication by her doctor - this may be significant, because at the time of her death, the pathologist noted that SC was menstruating..

so doesn't make her a killer.

Well, it does, or it did, if she was the killer - it may have been one of the reasons which pushed her over the top, in conjuction with the reduction by half of her haloperidol injection that she was given monthly...

You're obviously not a woman, Dr Pal. It's well documented that some women have a near total personality change under the influence of those hormones. I believe that PMT might have been allowed as a mitigating factor in one or more murder cases, where the woman was the killer: and with good reason.

Here you go:

In England, the PMS defense freed Christine English after she confessed to killing her boyfriend by deliberately ramming him into a utility pole with her car; and after killing a co-worker, Sandie Smith was put on probation - with one condition: she must report monthly for injections of progesterone to control symptoms of PMS. By the 1990s, the PMS defense paved the way for other hormonal defenses.

As one who has experienced the personality change of PMS etc I can testify to the Jeckyl and Hide effect some women undergo.

Sheryl Lynn Massip placed her 6 month old son under a car, ran over him repeatedly, and then, uncertain he was dead, did it again. She then claimed postpartum depression as a mitigating factor and got off with it. Sheryl was given outpatient medical help.

Well I can help with this one! I suffer with PMS and due to agressive mood swings,my doctor prescribed anti-depressants (seroxat).I have been taking them now for 14 years! Id just like to point out that the condition is PRE mestrual syndrome and means exactly that.Once a woman actually gets her period, the symptoms tend to subside. So even though Sheila was menstruating at the time of the murders, her PMT (that would have came BEFORE) she got her period, wouldnt have been a factor.

It depends how bad you get it, Lady Chelmsey, I can promise you from personal experience that some PMS does not subside with menstruation: it can continue or even get worse during the first few days.

In other words, for some women the name 'PMS' is a complete misnomer, for us it should be called PMS & M Syndrome

Though I should add that I refuse to take any medication such as anti-depressants for this. If I did, that might relieve it it I suppose, but the price of continuously being on anti-depressants is one I'm not prepared to pay.

Here's confirmation of that from the net:

"Premenstrual Symptoms After Period"

"Though most of these premenstrual symptoms after menstrual cycle are quite similar to the usually PMS symptoms, here are some of the most common symptoms that women experience even after their menstruation.

Breast Tenderness:

Spotting: .

Mood Swings: Mood swings is another common PMS symptom which is often accompanied with irritability and depression and begins a few days before period and continues during as well as after period. Hormonal changes, stress or anxiety are the main causes that leads to PMS and mood swings in women.

Food Cravings:

Bloating: Abdominal bloating during period or swelling in hands and legs is a PMS symptom which occurs due to fluctuations in the fluid and electrolyte system as well as water retention in the body."

I agree regarding the physical symptoms, but if on medication(as Mike says Sheila was),the psychological symptoms would have been relieved.Obviously I suffer badly with it or else I wouldnt have been been prescribed the anti-depressants to "chill me". I think that it is awful enough that people rip Sheila apart regarding her paranoid schizophrenia without heaping more insult on her memory. You know, she really may be innocent. Well in my eyes, she was a victim.A victim of her own tortured mind! I can only pray that she really did take her own life, rather than that decision being made for her.
