Police interview transcripts:
« on: December 05, 2013, 09:38:PM »
Just browsed this.

Over 30 'No comments' & 'can't remembers'. Over 10 -don't knows' & 'can't say'.

Several one word answers as well as vague answers such as 'not really', 'I think so'  & 'less than 40 but more than 10 !'

The police had to often ask the same simple questions several times in order to get a straight answer. He initially said he phoned Mugford before the police & could not remember what they spoke about at 3am. He eventually said Mugford was phoned after the police phone call. He even suggested the dog fired the second shot at Sheila and Nevill said 'She', not 'Sheila' !

These interviews were several weeks after the deaths. Jeremy seemed to be recovering well & enjoying himself so could not use grief/shock as a reason for his poor performance.

Although he could not remember a lot, Jeremy took the brave decision to stand in the witness box, unlike OJ in another famous case 9 years later. Sadly Jeremy was apparently unconvincing. Apart from the famous 'that is what have to establish' quote, the judge had to repeatedly ask him to speak up. His claim that Mugford was lying under oath because he 'jilted her' made him seem arrogant.

After a long trial, the jury took just a day to return a guilty verdict.

Would he have got a 'not guilty' verdict with a better performance in court ? Or not taken the stand at all. Not sure of the British rules are regarding not taking the stand.

Or maybe if he had been more co-operative with the police in showing them how it was a murder/suicide, they would have continued in that direction.

also if he had planned everything in such detail he would never have stumbled over such a vital part of his cover. What about JM in court. I have read she was so bad they could hardly cross examine her , even the judge said her evidence on its own was unreliable ( or words to that affect)

Jeremy phoned Mugford. So was awake enough to dial the number, so not half asleep.

The judge advised the jury not to make a decision based just on Mugfords testimony as there was no evidence to back any of it up.

He got out of bed, apparently answered the phone to Neville. Jeremy eventually said he phoned Mugford after phoning the police, although witness evidence says otherwise.

So he received a call from a scared Neville,  answered the phone. Then phoned the police. Surely he is  no longer half asleep as he phones Julie ?

Maybe not if your entire family was wiped out shortly afterwards. You must be a lucky man Adam who has neverr suffered from trauma or severe shock because if you had you would understand how it messes with your head and causes memory loss. You are so determined JB is guilty you guilters forget how horrific it would all have been for him as an innocent man. Xxx

Not saying he is innocent or guilty.

That day would have been unforgettable for him.

He remembered the phone call from Neville & how he sounded injured. Then made a concious decision to phone Mugford. Assumed he would remember what he said.

Mugford had no problem remembering what Jeremy said !

With over 40 answers to the police of 'no comment', 'can't remember', 'don't know' & 'can't say', you can say that again !

This interview was extremely important. It was just after he had been charged. In which case I assume it would be passed onto the DPP as part of the police evidence. It would be one of the things they would read before making a decision on whether there is enough to take the case to trial. It may also be used in court. Especially if Jeremy suddenly remembers what he did say to Mugford !

Maybe Jeremy thought it was an 'open & shut' case & he was 'watertight' as Mugford claims.
