Hi Jo, this begs the question.......who is your neighbour?

I know bugger all about parole hearings etc, but it does make sense that an admission of guilt is essential in order for rehabilitation to take place. Surely a parole board will look more favourably on a person who has faced up to his crime, shown remorse, completed the counselling etc etc.

Having said all that, I guess that Eddie Gilfoyle was released without ever admitting to his crime.  What were the circumstances surrounding his release? I seem to remember that they imposed some sort of gagging clause on him upon his release.

My neighbour is an experienced lag and talking to him and his 2 mates yesterday, he knows them from prison. He said he got the sentance through pleading not guilty but was found guilty so he's like done the time in retrospect if that makes sense.
I don't know if they will take into account his protests on innocence, the amount of time spent on CCRC hearings et, I have a feeling (but I don't know) if thats more of a moral issue.

I have been told that pleas of innocence/guilt do not matter with the parole board. They are mainly concerned with if they feel it would be safe to release the inmate back into the community.

Surely the recent two confessions will have a profound effect on his parole hearing.   I my opinion they will have to consider why Simon confessed to the two crimes and the state of his mental health along with whether or not he will be threat to society if he was to be released.

I know it has been said that this confession will not effect the release, but in my opinion something is not right if they do not consider the above and his mental state and the reasons behind his confession.

We are not privy to what is happening nor can we see what state of mind Simon is in, nor do I think he is ready for release in the next couple of years.  Its a flipping short sentence for stabbing a 79 year old defenceless woman, who was a close friend of his mothers.  I don't know what to make of it all.... :-\

I don't envy those who have to judge such matters.

Hall has managed to hoodwink dozens of people including eminent professionals. What's to say that he can't fool a parole board also?

What we do know is that;

a). He brutally murdered a defenceless old lady
b). He is a thief
c). He still uses recreational drugs
d). He is still a liar

I can't see how he will be fit for release in a year.

How do we know he is taking drugs?  Forgive my ignorance, but I know nothing about drugs at all, other than I can name a few.....I was not aware it was next year. Blimey! I hope not.   :-\ :-\ :-\

when he was taken to hospital recently, the combination of the medication given by prison doc and the drugs he was using (cant remember its name) which he got from other inmates..was a concoction for disaster.. also he previously became addicted to heron for a good few years which he got within the prison..apparently the gaurds would bring it in and make money off the prisoners and get them addicted..

Does this make him a psychopath? the lying..the zero lack of remorse..worse still squeezing sympathy out of the public and so many proffessional..him thinking he's smarter than everyone else..how he has used people..

I don't think he is ready for release either. He had previous for violence before he murdered Mrs Albert and I still remember how arrogant and threatening he came across in his online blogs. He had the nerve to blame everybody else for his situation, including his parents! He has shown no remorse whatsoever!

I agree with you. he would also be one of the most hated people and provoke outrage everywhere he goes..he's safer inside..that picture of him puffing himself up like a tough muscle man in one of the papers just makes me sick.. yeh what a tough guy he is..he burgles then stabs to death defenceless old ladies..and has hoodwinked everyone with his lies pretending he's the victim...makes me so mad.

it struck me from his online blogs assuming thay really his words and not his wifes.

that he was loosing the plot.
