Can only speculate that he confided in someone. That someone then blew the whistle

but he could still of denyed it if they did.

The remaining DNA could have belonged to a previous visitor unrelated to the actual murder, who had no criminal record.Hence no DNA comparison available on the police national database.

the bloodstaned fingerprint on the windowseal couldent of done.

An excellent point, one which I had previously considered.

Yes,that 'old turkey' the fibre evidence was compelling enough to convince a jury of Hall's guilt!
Yes,we know that Simon's mother spent time at Mrs.Albert's house,I am no forensic expert but I take it you are referring to 'secondary transfer'? The fibres  were discovered on Mrs Albert's face, legs, dressing gown, the immediate area of her body, the kitchen, around the broken glass of the window,on a concrete post in her back garden, and on fence panels at 15 Boydlands and 3 Vine walk (clearly then the entry or escape route ?). I personally cannot really see Simon's mother only depositing the fibres in these specific areas, can you? And what on earth would Simon's mother be doing in Mrs A's neighbouring gardens in order to deposit the fibres there?
The case still has me stumped due to the DNA,hair samples etc collected which didn't match Hall's. This appears to point to an accomplice? I disagree though that the footprints were not a match for Hall. A true shoe size could not be measured but was estimated as being between a size 6 and a half and a size 9. I understand Simon is a size 8? I know the tread was described as being made from 'city' type shoes and Simon allegedly did not own such a pair, but this was 6 months AFTER the murder! His mother stated that he had been wearing a pair of brown 'CAT' style boots and BLUE jeans on the night in question, and no disrespect to her but how could she possibly remember this 6 months after the event? I certainly could not describe what any of my sons were wearing on a particular night some 6 months ago!
Personally,as the jury did,I find the fibre evidence very very compelling.

The point that the fibres were classed as "unique" is the point I believe. We had a similar type of evidence in our case when an expert claimed the particles were unique and place the victim in the van. It took us nearly 10 years to show that these particle were so common as to be of no value as evidence.
The particals in question, lighter flint residue.

Anyway he was convicted and has confessed so this argument is Moot..

To confide something so sensitive, he would have chosen someone close. Alternatively he was overheard then perhaps challenged. That confidante could have persuaded him to then admit responsibility to the authorities. SH, perhap's under moral pressure accepted that.

Then it could have been old, so it's ruled out as potential hard evidence.

a bloody fingerprint can be dated. The particles of blood can be tested

Could this have possibly belonged to one of the people that found her? The neighbour admitted touching the body and raising the kitchen blind. Also, wasn't the dog fed too? Lots of activity in the kitchen then, when the area should really have been left untouched. Do you think blood, hair and DNA samples were taken from these people?

According to the Bristol Innocence Project who'd been working on the case for some time,,came to the conclusion that Simon was innocent as the evidence was flimsy and unreliable. They were shocked when the court of appeal turned them down. Dr.Michael Naughton and 25 of his students had been working on the case.
