there is also the posibilitys that hes decided he just wants freedom at any price.

I wonder this too..he wants his freedom and wants out..it could be that pressure from prison officials to just confess would result in an early release..may have caused Simon to just say' what they wanted to hear because he's given up.. but the consequences and attention this has bought him can only spell trouble, if he had confessed in the early stages he could have processed through the prison system and on release discreetly moved on back into society.. but now there will be outrage, haters,no one trusting or respecting him, this was a sickening crime on an elderly defenceless fragile old lady, even the toughest and baddest of criminals have zero tolerance when it comes to crimes involving old ladies or children people are repulsed by such cowardly crimes against the vulnerable..

I have a feeling we have not heard the last of this, and it certainly provokes a lot of questions as to why now.. there are a 101 reasons as to why confess  now ?? only Simon knows and lives with the truth.. either way the dust has to settle first before we understand under which circumstances was the confession made, and the sudden decision to do so now..

I think there were others involved, and their assistance/trading with the police resulted only in Simon's conviction, so that they could be rewarded with 'freedom'... police may have only been interested in the actual person who did the stabbing and not the ones who came along for the ride..who may not have had any idea or inclination that things would go horribly wrong and result in a murder..

Perhaps it is just me, but there is no way in this world would I admit to this heinous crime, just to gain my freedom. I would rather rot in jail.
There are many cases where well being women get sucked into this kind of thing.
It is my opinion that SH will have nothing to do with Steph when he eventually released.

well guilty or innocent the blood stained fingerprint proves there was someone else in that house on the night.

Why did he start to go off his rocker having been transferred to an open prison with a view to moving on to a bail hostel and then release Feb 2015 I think?  He had served some 10 years so why lose the plot when release was on the horizon?

Why did he confess to a burglary on the eve of the murders earlier on in the year?  Is this confession linked to the above?

Just out of interest will his confession to the murder of Mrs Albert now change his eligibility for parole and release?

All interesting questions. I think that perhaps the other confession is linked. So are we now going to see another arrest I wonder?

Although like nugnug I would like to know who this confession was made to and under what circumstances.

Although I did read this,
Quote
The CCRC was informed of his prison confession and contacted him asking him if he wanted to withdraw his claim, and his case has been closed.

So I think we can assume he said yes he wanted to withdraw his claim.

I am sure there will be more to come in this story

Perhaps the guilt was too much for him? It's interesting that his confession comes at a time when he had hope of being released. Perhaps deep down, he didn't think he deserved it.

as far as i know its the other way around people who admit there crimes get released people who dont stay tend in jail.

i also cant that someone  remorslesly kill someone and lie about it for 12 years would suddenly start feeling guilty now.

nugs  seems very strange to me and I am inclined to agree with you.  Maybe it was just a thing of the moment and he did not mean it.

Hi Nugnug

I don't know - confused  :-\ :-\ :-\. As Caroline said perhaps the prospect of release has made him
feel guilty.

I assume for the prison authorities to make such an announcement and the ccrc to close their files SH's mental state wld have been taken into account?

I think I'm right in saying he fought shy of taking a lie detector test?

I'm sure there will be more to come...

I was thinking about Stephanie trying to raise funds and she seemed pretty desperate.  Now I am wondering if she was trying to get a lie detector test done ?

An interesting item on Look East News just now, Where a psychologist was basically saying admit guilt and the prisoner gets an earlier start to rehabilitation before release !
