I was just thinking, if Jeremy killed his family, why wouldn't he have just dialled 999 from the farmhouse pretending to be Neville? All he then had to do was carefully make his way back home (on foot so as not to be seen or heard) and wait to be contacted by police?

Of course it would - he could have taken his time back to Goldhanger. Some of these scenario's drag your mind away from common sense. Bicycles and cycling across farmland, wearing a wetsuit?? It doesn't make any sense - common or otherwise. And, there is NO WAY he could have known that the police wouldn't rush the house when the armed response arrived (or before even). And also, why would he tell them he left the rifle out? He didn't even have to mention it??

Hi Caroline  I have always thought if Jeremy has something to hide why draw attention to the rifle being left out by saying he had been out earlier shooting rabbits.Everything Jeremy said was in all innocence as he had nothing to hide as he did not commit the crimes at WHF.  Did the police find his footprints at the window where he was supposed to have entered the farm and left by the same window.  Bet they never checked as it was four murders and one suicide.

Well I suggested this a long time ago Caroline and was slapped down because the Police would be able to tell the difference in voices. In reality he did make a call from the White House to his answerphone,cycled back to Bourtree Cottage and replaced the tape in the answerphone.

How are they going to tell the difference between his voice and Neville's? They had never heard Neville speak (allegedly). No one has the ability to remember someone's voice over the phone AND the officer answering the call isn't going to be the same one that attends the scene!! In reality, your reality, is lacking in reality!!

Can I say that there is a marked difference in the voice of a 24 year old and someone turned 60. The resonance is entirely different. A trained person would/should know the difference.!

Susan,,I think womens voices are different ( obviously ) because of the pitch,and by their very nature,can sound very similar regardless of age,,whereas a mans' voice is more easily distinguishable with differences in age.

  Older mens' voices are a notch or two lower than a young man,particularly one which was Jeremys' age at the time. I would have been able to tell at the time. You can also tell if a person is " putting a voice on " as well. I'm finely tuned,you see. Like an old grand piano ( more a Steinway )

lookout  you are absolutely right and that is why I always talk with my Yorkshire accent and never try to talk posh as people would know I am putting it on.  I know people who have two accents and I think that is so sad be yourself has always been my motto

For starters, an officer manning the phone in a small police station, isn't going to be trained in voice recognition, and he wouldn't be attending the scene of the incident anyway. If Jeremy had pretended to be his father how would the officer know what Neville sounded like having never heard him speak?

Yes,,I understand,Caroline..I was actually only on about voice recognition in general,and not the fact that Jeremy may have pretended to be his father,or the reason Jeremy bothered phoning in the first place.
