yes I have followed this case for a number of years. I was happy to see him out and about on his town visit.

Lets hope finally things can go his way.

I agree, dirty tricks to secure a conviction. Disgraceful

jayjay,,another case was Robert Brown, who was inside for 25 years before being released. He'd been " fitted-up " by five police officers, back in 1977. No charges were brought against the police. Roberts' conviction was quashed and that was the end of that.
He was convicted of murdering Annie Walsh back in 1977. Eamon O'neill,a journalist fought for Robert all along.

I read an article last year which stated that the parole board were not independent. They were made up of ex judges, lawyers, probation, prosecutors. ......wonder if he can challenge them on that. They seem to be intent on destroying the guy.

The last news was in 2009 when DNA tests were supposed to be held on what evidence remains, and if Raymonds' DNA wasn't present,,then he didn't commit the murder. Even though he'd  originally made a false admission of guilt thinking his prison stay would be cut short,,made no difference.Kamera actually pleaded guilty, even though he wasn't.
The system stinks in that more and more are ( falsely) pleading guilty. Why the case isn't considered going to the court of appeal,,I don't know. This is injustice at its worst.
Like Jeremy,,Raymond has protested his innocence and has been a model prisoner.

Latest news on Ray Gilberts' request to be moved to an open prison have been rejected.
Campaigners who've fought for Gilberts' release claim that his case has fallen into the " parole trap " which those prisoners who've protested their innocence have limited hopes of ever being released.

During the original trial,Gilbert had changed his plea to guilty and had been hoping to move to a cat D prison, which would have been the next step to freedom.
Gilbert now says that justice chiefs have rejected his written submissions to a parole panel claiming that he'd been a difficult prisoner who wouldn't be suitable for a move at this stage. He now believes he'll be in prison until he dies.

Gilbert had had three supervised town visits in recent months and showed that he was suited to a lighter prison regime. However this latest news has been a bitter blow for those campaigning for his freedom.
Ray will continue to fight to clear his name,,knowing that the odds are stacked against him,,and his only hopes rest on an application for an oral hearing of his evidence. Four reviews of his casehave not led to a successful referral to the appeal court.

The Ministry of Justice said it did not comment on individual cases.!
How many individual cases are now mounting up.?
