It was a quote from Maggie if you read it properly. It said
"understand it Lugg, it sounds like affectionate leg pulling to me" Unquote

Susan that was not how the remark fitted into the context into which he said it. He said it to Farm secretary Barbara  Wilson. She stated that "Nevil sagged into his seat and smoked a ciggarette, I highlighted the fact that it was unusual for him to smoke he said " I seldom do, I must not burden you with my problems, but I must never turn my back on that young man"
Anyone who tried to make out that Nevil was joking or it was some kind of 'dry humour' has completely missed the point of this conversation or they are in some kind of denial. Barbara Wilson in no uncertain terms said that Jeremy obviously getting to Nevil. Let us not forget that she was a witness to many of the events happening in WHF at that crucial time. Not merely unconnected commentators like we are.

Where is the above quote from? It doesn't sound like a statement but if you have the source, it would be helpful to post it? It's sounds remarkably like another quote from Barbara Wilson which is from Rodger Wilkes's book Blood Relations. However, it's slightly different although neither quote actually mention Jeremy Bamber by name so you are assuming he is referring to Jeremy!! Please also refer to the document below which is also attributed to M's Wilson. It is also interesting to note that Barbara Wilson didn't mention any of this information until years after the trial

This is the Wilkes version ...

After Barbara Wilson promises to look after the farm (in the event anything happens to him), she asks if he is seriously ill and he (allegedly) said;

"No, but I don't think I've got long"
"What do you mean? If you're not ill, what's wrong?"
Neville Bamber drew on his cigarette, swallowed deeply and blew a cloud of smoke above his head. "There is so much to tell Barbara," he murmured. "But I can't bother you with all that. It's not your burden. But id anything were to happen to me, you will promise me you'll do that?" (Look after the farm).
"Yes, of course I will."
"Of course" he adds, "the shooting season's coming up." Neville Bamber just sat and looked at her. Then he said, "Living on a farm is a dangerous place and one never knows what's going to happen ..."
His voice trailed off and he looked away.
"Do you have a premonition?" asked Barbara Wilson.
"Well, perhaps. But one never knows. I could go out one day shooting and you never know do you? These things do happen. You never can tell.

No mention of turning his back on anyone? However, she also said the following .....

" only interested in evidential fact ". Where or when did this ever show itself at the trial.?

Well it certainly appears that the writer of the book which was quoted has written what they have written without any kind of documentation or authentic letters to establish the truth of what was said concerning Jeremy? The are facts we are dealing with and not hearsay which of course can also appear in a book at the private whim of the writer. It would still be hearsay.

And rest assured that there would have been if Barbara Wilson had suspected him in the slightest - and this summar would NOT have been so sketchy.
This is so telling and so unnerving. BW had some strong suspicions....
More and more lately, I have been considering other options than Sheila or Jeremy - so many things do not make sense in either scenario. Are we looking in the wrong direction?

Hi Alias, every so often I feel like this but any ideas I have always come up against that old brick wall.

Hello Daniel

noted all your points and I am perplexed at some of your points.  Now you must remember I am still wearing "L" plates as I am quite new to the case but I was not aware that Ralph was shot in the Master Bedroom thought that was just poor June.  When Jeremy arrived at the farm on his Mother's bike the outside dog would have heard him and barked dogs have very sensitive hearing.  Secondly Crispy was a yappy little dog and would have barked when Jeremy opened a window and climbed in thus awakening members of the household., It is my belief that Sheila did not retire to her bed when her parents did the pm shows she had digested food later than the rest of the family.  We have the incident with the tampon holder being found in the Lounge June would never have allowed that so that tells me June was sleeping the buckets of blood stained clothing who was responsible for that not Jeremy that is for sure.  If you read the statements it is thought that Sheila was shot much later than the rest of the family.  Had Jeremy gone to Sheila's bedroom to wake her and make some kind of threats why did he just not kill her there why did she have to be in the Master Bedroom with her bible it would have made more sense had she been with her children trying to protect them.  You appear to be saying Jeremy shot Sheila with the silencer on by telling her to close her eyes and pray then he went to all the trouble of putting the silencer back I believe in a box in the gun cupboard without cleaning it first then he shot her again without a silencer on the rifle.  After this terrible fight in the kitchen did he receive any marks on his body or blood on his clothes what happened to his blood stained clothes.  It has been reported I think you may have mentioned it that Jeremy was callous and had Crispy put to sleep why not put a bullet in the poor dogs head whilst he was at it.

After he carried out this horrendous crime why not go home phone nobody and wait for somebody to contact with the terrible news.  We all know that no forensic evidence was found at the scene to incriminate Jeremy only the silencer? and a statement from a woman scorned.  Think about it Daniel if you intended to murder your entire family would you confide in your girl friend prior and after then a few weeks later dump her not a sensible thing to do not clever at all not the actions of a clever cunning young man.,

Well said susie, great post and all true, the silencer doesn't make any sense.  He would never have put it back in the cupboard covered with blood he would have lost it somewhere, he was in the middle of the country with the sea round the corner, it couldn't have been easier....surely?
