Morning Patti

very good points made about psychopaths. Some people have traits of a  psychopath and don't even know it or indeed acknowledge them.  I would have thought after all the tests Jeremy had one of them would have been right.  I read from some posters that Jeremy was a vain arrogant young man without any signs of being a kind individual then in another sentence they say he was a psychopath ???

Morning Susan/April/All

Unlike lovely April I have only read the G.C.S.E approved book on psychology and found it tough to get to grips with, thus being many years ago  ;) so decided to do sociology instead..Yawn!!! My mum used to say if it has an ology at the end, study it :D....I left school with zilch! :-[ Left on a Friday and went to work in a cutlery factory on the Monday. A few years alter I married. It wasn't till the late 80's that I decided to go back to college and take my 0'levels. I passed but only got B's......:(  I'm not bright, but I would have loved to have done a course on criminology and psychology.....

I thought Jeremy was arrogant, but he was no different to other middle class man of his age, I suppose.
Having read his letters to Mike, I found him a caring person and he always asked about Mike's well being. Would a psychopath do that?  :-\ :) :) :) :) :)

Hello Patti firstly I don't think you have to be bright to study criminology just be prepared to learn and read.  Having some knowledge of life itself is much more helpful than all this textbook stuff.  I think you are a very clever young lady.  IMO the most successful people in life start at ground roots and work their way up to the highest level this means they have an understanding of their given field and the people they are dealing with. :-*

Lovely Patti, don't sell yourself short. When you talk window catches, bullet shapes, dimensions, velocity, numbers, I really have NO idea what your talking about. You deal very well with hard facts which are strictly black or white. Psychology is nebulous, blurred and like me, all about grey area. We may never be able to put our toes into each others territories but at least we have respect for them :) Back later :-* :-*

Patti you are right as I posted earlier its routine for a category A prisoner to be tested in this way. It has nothing to do with any suspicions Jeemy Bamber specifically is a psychopath or suspected of haviing such traits. The fact Jeremy successfully took a polygraph test shows he isnt a psychopath as the involuntary physical reactions dont occur with a psychopath there is in fact no reaction whatsoever and such a test would have had to be abandoned.

Hello Maggie

my perception of a psychopath is somebody who comes over as charming kind loving person and helpful to others and this persona is one they have consciously adopted i.e. Ted Bundy.  Now I read on this forum that some posters want Jeremy Bamber to be a greedy arrogant nasty individual but they state he is a psychopath as well surely the two don't marry together .  Just my humble opinion of course as I am no expert on these matters but we have many on the forum who are or who think they are.

Hi susie Im sure you are right. Psycbopaths are aware they are different as they think the majority ie. People with emotional responses are pathetic but they do mimic how to show emotions etc. This enables them into positions of power. Often partners learn the hard way that they're involved with a psychopath as the mask can slip  behind closed doors...wife beaters etc. They say a failed psychopath will show their true self and the end of that line is of course murder. This is how I understand it anyway. Apart from that was Jeremy arrogant or a  bit cocky or a bit over confident or appeared over confident because he was really unsure of himself. Defensive? How do we know he was only 24 not really old enough to have matured really imo.

Hi Susan,,,my perception is different. Dale Cregan would be my own idea of a psychopath,,,completely void of emotion when he shot those police officers along with the father and son. He committed all murders with a calmness that only comes with a psychopathic mindset. By no means a charmer.

Hi Patti

Please be assured that you are significantly brighter than the average person.

I appreciate that you might see yourself as average amongst all the intellectual debate on the forum  ;D ;D ;D but as I said please accept that you are significantly brighter than average.

Fyi it is now widely accepted that there are 9 distinct types of intelligence:

http://skyview.vansd.org/lschmidt/Projects/The%20Nine%20Types%20of%20Intelligence.htm

I have to say though I think you are wrong in your assertions about JB being arrogant (and other middle class men?)  Imo this is an unfair sterotype.  Many think footballers are thick and this is simply not true.  I believe you are Chelsea supporter so you may be aware that Frank's iq is 150+.  This is true of many of the other top flight players too:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/9188043/Footballers-are-highly-intelligent-according-to-new-study.html

I think we should refrain from sterotyping which can't be supported.

Hello lookout

as I said I have little knowledge on the subject maybe psychopaths behave differently after I posted I thought of Peter Sutcliffe and he came over as a normal run of the mill guy with a very disturbed mind is he a psychopath.  I would not have a clue.  I should not base them all on Ted Bundy.  I normally keep off these subjects as I am bound to say the wrong thing :'(
