Shot him in the eye. I believe the letter says it was Robert Howie.

It said he had a pellet removed from his eye among other places. I met a bloke at a shoot once who had had the same thing happen (it may even have been him as it was in that area), it looked a bit like bad acne scarring.

May possibly have been Bridget,it is a small world! Thinking about the conversation BW said that she had with Nevill, when he stated to her that the shooting season was coming up and he feared losing his life in a shooting "acccident",or words to that effect,I have said this before, but,he clearly was not referring to Jeremy as he didn't tend to attend the shoots. Could he have been referring to a member of his "usual" shooting party. Do we know who his "usual" shooting party consisted of? Was one of these people the person who Nevill felt threatened by?

All we know from the letter is that David was (or may have been) involved in a collision with an old lady who died and in a separate accident a cousin caught a few shot gun pellets in the face.
Two very serious incidences though surely? Which it appears the family were very successful in covering these two things up. If I killed an old lady on the road the whole community would hear about it in the Maldon and Burnham Standard. I don't remember reading about this at all. But then of course it is "Jeremy" who is saying these things and as Vidvic would say, "Oh it is Jeremy (implies the well known liar) who said it". But of course we only reject hearsay when it comes from either Jeremy or his friends and supporters don't we. Everything the "family" says is always to be reveared as gospel. ::) But carry on. You are doing very well with your policy of simply "dismissing" things you don't like.

Oh! that wouldn't be some of the "hearsay" that Steve-uk has been putting about is it Tyler? But oh I forgot. It was put about by one of the friends of the relatives. Silly me it must be true? ::)

Very good question tyler.  I cannot for a moment believe Neville would have been so laxidasical with his gunsafety if he felt Jeremy was a threat to anyone's life with a gun.  It had to be someone over whom he didn't have control that he was thinking of.  Would be interesting to know who was a regular member of Neville's shooting party.

I'd have to reread that conversation to put it into context but I seem to recall thinking it was probably a joke remark related to JB's wish to purchase a 5 shot automatic shotgun; but either way I very much doubt it was anything at all to do with Neville fearing JB intended to kill him.

No Bridget, according to BW it was no "joke remark".The conversation was said to have taken place in his office.BW said that Nevill had appeared to be depressed and asked her to promise to look after the farms interests should anything happen to him. She says she was worried about him but that he "didn't want to burden her with his problems".

I noted that NB had " scars ",,one on his neck, and one in his groin. I can only conclude from that, that he had some sort of an investigation concerning bloodflow ( carotid artery area ) and heart ( angiogram in which is performed via the groin to the area of the heart ) so I wondered if he had any heart problem.

He may have had an investigation Lookout, but if there had been anything wrong with him medically,it would have been revealed at the pm wouldn't it? I think they were all deemed as pretty healthy?

After she promises to look after the farm, she asks if he is seriously ill and he said

"No, but I don't think I've got long"
"What do you mean? If you're not ill, what's wrong?"
Neville Bamber drew on his cigarette, swallowed deeply and blew a cloud of smoke above his head. "There is so much to tell Barbara," he murmured. "But I can't bother you with all that. It's not your burden. But id anything were to happen to me, you will promise me you'll do that?" (Look after the farm).
"Yes, of course I will."
"Of course" he addes, "the shooting season's coming up." Neville Bamber just sat and looked at her. Then he said, "Living on a farm is a dangerous place and one never knows what's going to happen ..."
His voice trailed off and he looked away.
"Do you have a premonition?" asked Barbara Wilson.
"Well, perhaps. But one never knows. I could go out one day shooting and you never know do you? These things do happen. You never can tell.

Tyler,,it was just the fact about those two particular areas of scarring which made me think of even as little as a " blip ",,which doesn't always indicate that the heart itself is diseased. As we get older,we experience the odd dizzy spell perhaps or a touch of angina ( warning to slow down ) but nothing to say that you've got one foot in the grave.
NB's " worries " latterly may have brought on chest pains of stress which are similar to having an angina attack. He may have felt the need of a checkover,,and as such would have gone privately,so no fussing for NB,he wasn't that kind of chap.
