Possibly not but I think it does put paid to the idea that they wouldn't have been removed.
How does it do that?
I don't know whether they did or not, but clearly it would not be unusual for them to do so. Pargeter was very familiar with .22 rifles and entered competitions, if it was so absurd for the shop to zero the rifle then he wouldn't have suggested it.Either way, he simply said that he thought JB or NB had mentioned to him that the shop had zeroed the weapon. So he either thought correctly or was mistaken. It was unusual to remove the sight without good reason, of course there may have been a good reason that we are not aware of.
Why shouldn't they be removed if they weren't zeroed?
The rifle was purchased 9 months prior to the murders, its sight would have been zeroed in, okay maybe not by the gun shop, but if not then by JB or NB.Removing the sight is unusual without a reason for doing so.
Hi Hartley The thing is we don't know and, I suspect Pargeter didn't know either, in all fairness. However, it is another question that remains unanswered. No use guessing! Wonder when Buddy will return so we can ask him a few questions....
I imagine a lot of people take them off at some point, maybe they needed to be zeroed again and he couldn't be arsed so he took them off.
He has PM'd me, but I get the feeling that he was trying to show Pargeter as being deceitful (look at title of thread), where as the reality is that AP was less than assertive, he simply said that thought he had been told something. Whether he recalled correctly or not doesn't really matter, the sight needed to be zeroed to be used effectively, somebody zeroed the sight.
Do we know that the sights were even used?
I'm sure Jeremy would have said if they weren't.
Jeremy was asked who had removed the sights..He said he assumed his dad had.
So we can be pretty sure that it was usually attached and in use.
