Renault 1.2L 8 valve engines fitted in Kangoos and Clios have a recurring problem with TDC sensor failure. As if it wasnt enough that they can charge approx £30 plus labour to fit a new sensor but about 3 years ago they changed the plug on the sensor so that older cars then needed a new piece of wiring.... they charge an extra +£30 for new part....
Someone at Renault has a lot to answer for to this piece of genius , its probably made Renault a lot of extra money
I constantly had that problem. £53 every time to replace the tdc sensor. You know why they fail don't you? It is usually the water pipe just above it springs a slow leak. This corodes the sensor inside.

ive had to fit a few on customers cars myself and the last one i purchased from Renault the fellow in the parts dept told me i needed this new part of wiring that was an extra £30....
told him i didnt need it at all...

he says " i'll just leave it here under the desk cos you'll be back..."

Needless to say i wasnt

I'm annoyed with Renault as it a pointless need to have changed a part other than to screw extra money from customers

Many years ago, my then husband and I were invited to a "do" for a certain political party that would be attended by the local MP. He was very late but apologized by explaining that his car had broken down. My husband asked him what car he drove, and a tad sheepishly because his party stood for British values, told him "A Renault". My husband uttered one word "Really". There was a silence which seemed to last an eternity before the room, MP included, dissolved into laughter.

If any guests are familiar with the ever popular tune " The Whistling Gypsy " easily hummable while waiting for a recovery tow truck, this newly penned verse may prove a big hit for the Wurzels, if they ever make a comeback..... On Three.... The Renault Laguna came over the Hill, Into the valley so shadey, A whistle and a clang then the engine went bang, and all for the sake of a badly designed piece of French Engineering........ Sacre blur or as Del Boy might have once said Bon Appetit You Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys........ Boicey's sales pitch for French Cars was " Yes Madam the mileage is genuine, it's just that half of it was acheived behind an AA van !!!!!

I once had a rusty old renault (The French seem to export a lot of tat, not unlike the Chinese) - the suspension went (no funnys jokes please  ;D ) so I used to have to put the ghetto blaster on the other side, along with my passengers...  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

I remember little bits of rust flying around the inside of that motor one hot sunny day, when the spring went...  :(  :(  :( I thought it was coming from the outside fields...

We soldered a piece of metal on to repair the hole in the suspension and used a coke can to fix up the exhaust...   ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D
My friend who lives in Newquay buys old cars as it is no use buying a new one down there because the salt air soon rusts them. I remember him coming indoors one day murmering about reversing into a neighbour's car. "I'd better go next door and tell him", he said. Next thing I could here my friend talking to this other chap, "I don't know if that's your rust or mine?" He said. ;D

Hi Steph

I once was asked out on a date and the guy turned up to collect me in a Reliant Robin and to add insult to injury he had a male passenger in the front so I had to climb in the back wearing my mini skirt and my knees were touching my chin needless to say he never got a second date.  Off to the gym now to watch all fit guys pumping iron and me dribbling on the treadmill longingly ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  See ya.
