The advantage of being in the EU . . .
The ECHR and the UK's legislation relating to it are unrelated to the UK's membership of the EU.

He is currently awaiting a verdict on an appeal against the life-meaning-life tariff from the European Court of Human Rights.

Thanks for the information BB2010.  :)

Where do you stand on this, if I may ask?

Personally, I don't think the life meaning life tariff is fair, if that was not what was originally given at trial.
I also have a prioblem with it being a decision made by a Home Secretary.

It is no longer decided by the Home Secretary, but as posted elsewhere there are guidelines setting out life tariffs for certain crimes.

Personally I'm quite happy for someone to be locked away forever if they are GUILTY of the premeditated killing 5 people, including children.

According to Jeremy, there will be another month at least before there is a decision on his whole life tariff in the ECHR.

You know what narks me more than judges/home secratarys giving whole life sentences etc..... stupidly light sentences that allow a criminal to come out after serving a small amount of time only to commit crimes again. Roy Whiting would be such an example, if the original judge in that trial hadnt allowed him to be released when he did Sarah Payne would still be alive today.

Just been reading about the prisoner at Full Sutton ( a child killer) that has been killed by another inmate, cant say i feel much sympathy to be honest.

Tell you which prisoner i find most intersting, Robert Maudsley hes on a life term for commiting murder (3 of which he commited whilst in prison) his victims were all convicted peadophiles, not saying its right what hes done but still a fascinating case

Yes that is an interesting one, not too sure about the alleged brain eating hobby he supposedly had going on.  :o

True but id like to know where he got the spoon from!

Love to see him given 5 minutes in a room with Ian Huntley!!

Ive read an interview that Charles Bronson did about Robert Maudsley they hate each other lol.

Charles Bronson is another interesting one, read he was sentenced to 8 years originally but hes caused that much carnage in prison he probably wont ever get out.

When JB was convicted, the Judge served the tariff allowed by the court.

In those days, the whole life tariff was decided by the Home Secretary. It was always likely - given
     a) Multiple murder
     b) Child murder
that the whole life tariff could be handed down at any Home Sec review.

The WLT is now decided by the judgicary. As yet, they have not amended JB's inclusion in the list.

Is jb kept on a special wing in prison say for child murderers and pedophiles

If not why not

If not is that because people in prison do not believe him to be guilty

No. He has certain privileges afforded to him so as not to prejudice his research into attempting to prove his innocence, as is afforded to any prisoner under such circumstances.

As it happens his relatives have recently forced an investigation into exactly what privileges he should and shouldn't be afforded.

Whether he is innocent or guilty, his current accommodation circumstances are not indicative either way.

My understanding is that the ECHR is being asked to determine whether JB's original inclusion in the list, upheld so far, was invalid for legal reasons.

Now I am getting suspicious of whats going on with jb s case the relatives 'found the silencer'. seemed to have been involved in the WHOLE investigation managed to get Jeremy downgraded to a cat a after the prison with all the experience they have felt he could upgraded to cat b and now the relatives seem to be trying to stop jb getting help with the appeal process that is open to all prisoners.  I would have thought with all the speculation over is jb innocent or guilty that has been going on for 25 years the relatives would welcome definitive proof either way that could happen through the disclosure of more documents.  I would expect they wouldn't like to be responsible for all that inheritance if they might have to pay it back one day.

Is it unusual for the relatives to have such an input into everything or have Essex police been over helpful?

Hmmm wonder why ?

What's it got to do with them? They seem to have fingers in pies all over the shop.

I know, that's what I think.  Their behaviour before the killings and after, and since seems very weird.

No idea. They met with Priti Patel who then took it to parliament and from what I understand an investigation has been started. Don't shoot the messenger.
