Did Brett Collins stand by Jeremy?

I understand Brett Collins was a good and close friend of Jeremy. The two had met during Jeremy's previous travels to Australia and New Zealand.

I also understand Brett Collins met up with Jeremy during June 1985 and then went travelling in Europe,  I think Greece has been mentioned.

Upon hearing the news of the WHF tragedy Brett Collins reappears in the Essex area and stays with Jeremy (much to Julie Mugford's documented annoyance).

Eventually Brett and Jeremy go off together and spend some time in the south of France. Upon their return to the UK Jeremy was arrested in Dover.

What happened to Jeremy's good friend Brett Collins?

Did Brett Collins stand by or desert Jeremy after his arrest?

It appears a lot of others who were apparently friends and close to Jeremy deserted him after his arrest in Dover.

I have often wondered about Brett Collins.  I understand he was around after the tragedy as he had some interest/knowledge about antiques and Jeremy needed to sell off family heirlooms to meet the substantial inheritance tax liability.  I believe he did attend the trial?  I guess lots of people that  believed in Jeremy's innocence felt helpless and eventually fell by the wayside? 

Sadly it doesn't appear that Jeremy or Sheila had many genuine friends of long-standing.  They don't appear to have kept in touch with anyone from school and as they were boarders miles away from WHF missed out on forming friendships with locals via school and after school activities.  Jeremy worked on the farm so that would have limited any work related friendships and it appeared Sheila never had a regular paid job.  What friends they had seem to have been made via visiting pubs and bars.

Oh I meant to add that I believe Jeremy does keep in contact with some old friends.  I believe one drew  a picture of Jeremy on the steps of the CoA with a raised fist which Jeremy has on his prison wall

Yes, I believe he has friends, it's only his enemies we hear about and most of them probably never met him anyway.

Oh and Anji Greaves his girlfriend after Julie Mugford stood by him during his trial.  After his conviction she still believed in his innocence but felt that by standing by him further would have been a life sentence for them both.

Suzette Ford his former live-in lover also stood by him and attended some or all of the trial.  She also still believed in his innocence after the conviction.

I am wondering when it was that Jeremy 'went off the rails' and began to get into trouble.  I know there are rumours from his time in Australia but they are only rumours and don't know if they emerged after he was convicted of murder. 

So was he in trouble before he teamed up with Julie?  Makes you wonder who the ring leader was and who the follower was or if they just made a good pair.  I don't believe he was in any trouuble with the police while in a relationship with Suzette Ford??

Steve always maintains Julie was the innocent one influenced by Jeremy but maybe it was the otherway round and maybe Jeremy was a bit of a follower who was very influenced by whoever he was mixing with at the time?

You've made some very good posts Maggie.
 Jeremy was easily led and his previous " petty crimes " were carried out for the excitement and fun that he got out of it,,similar to the naughty schoolboy who carries out things for a dare,,,he just wasn't/isn't the type to resort to murder,,as I find it impossible to envisage him killing one person,let alone five.
His mouth ran away with him just because he thought out loud and JM used this downfall against him. He may have said all kinds of things in the past,but not in the context in which it ended up in court.
With friends like JM,you don't need enemies.

Maybe Brett Collins often thinks about Jeremy,I don't know,,but JM had spread the word that Jeremy was bi-sexual because of his looks and charm,and that she'd said that Jeremy told her himself. Nevertheless, she wasn't fussy at the time though. Strange,that.

Odd you should mention Collins, because I was talking about him to someone the other day.  I had googled him and landed up on this porn sight.  I dare not click on it, in case it open up.  The other thing I had noticed was the remark on wiki.....which is supposed to be a comment made by Collins....
