She loved him though maggie....it hurt her when she found out he wanted to see another woman after being with her for two years.  Not all people are the same when it comes to relationships and not all people have been through the same circumstances that they had....Its any ones guess! Suppose we wont ever know, because JM has never spoken about it since, well not to the press anyway.... :) :) :) :)

She had that pang of conscience for not taking him seriously enforced upon that tabula rasa which had led to tragedy, and in a way she loved him enough not to want to see him go to prison. She rationalized in her own mind that the case had turned into four murders and a suicide and had not wanted to rock the boat by challenging DCI Taff Jones's authority. As I say she was ultimately forced into going to Police after her conversation with Liz Rimington during which the true circumstances of Jeremy's involvement in the murders emerged.

I think you mean spurned Mat!!
I dont mean they decided to split up because of that but unconsciously the reason Jeremy wanted it over was probably the desire for a clean slate, a new start etc. Nothings cut and dried and he may not have even known why he was behaving that way....subconcious stuff.

Yes, Maggie, I did. Sorry it's late and I've read/written so much today that words are all forming into one.

Steve if she did not believe him after 2 years why did she claim to believe him after 6 weeks had past?  Why did she not stop the crime? Why didn't she say something after she had viewed the bodies of 5 dead people? Why why why......If she had the pang for not taking his seriously then why after 6 weeks did she suddenly decide to do so?  To rock the boat is under statement.

Anyway, good night to you and all....got to eat a marsh mellow.....as Lugg would say...ha!  :) :) :) :) :)

Steve uk.......you have fully read all of JM's statements? Did she tell the police that Jeremy told her he planned to shoot all of the family dead?

Did Julie tell the police in her statements that Jeremy had told her that he planned to SHOOT his family dead?

Of course but this was related to a 20 year old girl whose tabula rasa did not imbibe the full import of what she was being told. She had been initially swept off her feet in the early days with Jeremy wooing her with flowers, chocolates and the honeymoon suite at luxury hotels and had possibly built up a picture in her mind of Jeremy as her infallible hero. How could this man who had been so generous and loving in a way no other man had been to her(remember Brett described him as "a big softie")harbour such wicked thoughts? However the nightmare became a reality as Julie became swept up in deceit, the only way ultimately to extricate herself being to betray the only man she had heretofore truly loved.

Because the evil deed had been done. Julie knew she had had no hand in it and was not going to end up like Lady Macbeth. She did not want to go to the Police but events conspired to make that course the only outlet whereby she could extricate herself from Jeremy's wickedness.

Agreed Steve.  We are soft for men that are half-decent kind especially when we are young.  It is only later in life we get experience and become cynical and realize that most men are only interested in one thing and that is not us.

This is a ludicrous argument steve. No one in her right mind would have been able to look at him knowing what hed done. Remember she had seen the dead bodies, the results of his handiwork. If she knew he'd done it and went along with it she should have gone to prison too. There is no excuse for her behaviour. Imo

That is something I never understand with this case.

Anne Eaton is sitting outside the morgue in the car, JM is doing the IDs of the bodies and JB is doing cartwheels down the highstreet to the solicitors to find out how much he inherit.  The police take one look and decide they have got a suicide and sit around drinking Nevills whisky.

What was everyone thinking?

It is enough to make anyone emigrate to Canada.

Also I add I am no JM fan at all!

But she was a young girl from the north of England whom one could in no way describe as being well versed in London's ways. Here she was faced with a situation where the official verdict as recorded by a Police force was "four murders and a suicide",so what was the likelihood that one individual could overturn it?

Hi XiLi. I don't think Tolleshunt D'Arcy has a high street? I'd like to have seen that. ;D

Hi Lugg,

I not know, never been there, not sure I want to either.  This whole thing just totally bizzare case.  I spend all night reading statements last night and I cannot belive what I am reading.  It is worse than Jeffery Archer Novel.

It was typical of the Zeitgeist of the times, whereby authoritarianism had a few months previously triumphed over the plebians of the miners, and Jeremy's plummy tones had hoodwinked DCI Taff Jones into believing what anyone inside the house could see with their own eyes. Of course Julie made mistakes, but so did many people involved in this case and it is unfair to single Julie out.

Hi Steve, I agree to some extent, she was no angel and what she had to do that morning must have been life changing experience.  She must have felt way out of her depth.

Id forgotten about Thatcher and the Miners.

I hardly think Julie is being singled out steve, she was a pretty important player in this and had a responsibility like everyone else to the truth. If you excuse Julie for being an accessory because she was 'only 20' well then Jeremy was only 24 and women develop more quickly than guys so does he get an allowance too....apparently not.
