Nug Nug, Evening all,- this is a tricky question.
Lord McAlpine's name was put in the frame on the Internet, despite an injunction being in place.
A photograph of him was shown to Mr Messhum who, in horror, said:- 'No that is not the man' !
Until then, as I understand it, no photograph had been shown to Mr Messhum.
More recently, the name now being bandied about on the Internet, is that of the late, fabulously wealthy, 'Jimmie', he of the King Zog's Hispano-SuiZa motor car fame( only  4miles/gall)
'Jimmie' who died in 1991, was some 34 years older than AlIstair, whom Margaret Thatcher had ennobled as Lord McAlpine of West Green.
There is, or was, another of the McAlpine clan, a few years younger than the said AlIstair.
His name was The Hon AlAstair B McAlpine - 'The Third Man'. IMO the Authorities  know the identity of the actual culprit, and maybe they are prevaricating.
I cannot trace the said Hon AlAstair, possibly he changed his name and went to Canada, or further afield.
Can anyone else throw more light on this mystery?

lord maclpine wasnt a household name i doubt if anyone from welsh childrens home would know who he was

so i certainly don't think they made it up.

so as we know it wasnt him i think it must of been somebody pretending to be him.

and whoever the abuser was the knew lord macalpine or knew of him.

Campion from the articles I have read, they report that Mr Messham was shown a photograph by the police in the early 90's, the police also named the man in the photograph as Lord McAlpine, the victim confirmed the man in the picture was his abuser.

For many years Mr Messham lived with the belief that the man who abused him as a child, was a man named Lord McAlpine, the name which was given to him by the police.

It wasnt until lately that Mr Messham was shown another photograph, of the real Lord McAlpine, and Mr Messham said, it was not the same man.

This has been an error on the part of the police IMO.

Here is an article that I was reading earlier, this article also reports that Mr Messham was shown 2 photographs, one in the early 90's and another last week.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-20314104

I wonder if the photograph that was first shown to Mr Messham is still available in a filing cabinet somewhere?

I think they need to track this policeman down.

Perhaps Lord McAlpine could use his powers to help himself and Mr Messham get to the bottom of this mess.

  Oncesaid  & Nugnug,
As I understand it, the Lords McAlpine are/were :
  Lord McAlpine of West Green
     ''          ''       of Newarthill
     ''          ''       of Marchweil
     ''          ''        of Knott Park
There may be more. Some are for life, some are hereditary. All emanate from 'Concrete Bob'.
I have read that an abuser was sleeping in the apartment in the hotel at Wrexham, whereupon the young lad availed himself of documents of identification.
See if you can ascertain any more info about Al-a-stair B McAlpine. His first marriage was to a Miss Winchester. Not a shotgun wedding LOL.

Oh, so the policeman may not have given the wrong name to Mr Messham after all.

This could have been easily cleared up if Mr Messham was shown the photograph before they aired the programme.

now i dont think the police in north wales had it in for lord macilpine i doubt if the average welsh copper would even know who he was so we can rule out a conspiracy against him.

so that just leaves a genuine mistake but its funny mistake to make.

Campion, is Al-a-stair B McAlpine, not the person who was wrongly accused?.
