Scottish independence
« on: October 17, 2012, 08:48:PM »
I rememeber as a young Scot wanting and willing someone to take us into coming generation with the will of the people of Scotland, I have marched to that same beat for many years and with people coming forward like Salmond,Swinnie and others it was easy for me to embrace what could and might be.

It is however a very insecure world we live in at this moment and the thought that the union maybe broken up and us at the mercy of these very same individuals is very scary to me. I love Britain and what has made us this great in times past. The question is where are we all at in respect to the referendum in 2014? those in all parts of Britain are effected by this also as the break up will be in essence a break up of what we have known all this time.

I am still of the opinion that the Nats have done a very good job of running Scotland to this point over the last few years but their 1st time in office came about without a real push towards the independence issue as that was what would have secured them victory. Now things are going to their heads a bit, tryin gto tell the country that we can stand alone.

With the collapse of the former Soviet Union and the emergence of new states based on nationalism on the map of Europe, it might well have occurred to many Scots that they could do likewise. Leaving aside the arrest of three prominent party figures, Operation Branchform and the untaxed £110,000 motorhome lying dormant outside Nicola Sturgeon's mother-in-law's house, this must surely remain a heart over head issue, wishing to break up one of the most successful unions in world history. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/26FEkDDoKVc?feature=share

Is the SNP a law unto itself? https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/nicola-sturgeon-s-whatsapp-messages-during-pandemic-deleted/ar-AA1j2HMe?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=e562571a26a74127b144e5ad1f626820&ei=19
It reminds me of the  Wagatha Christie Rooney and Rebecca Vardy case Steve, Rebbeca Vardy's agent's phone myseriously went missing overboard,

Rebekah Vardy’s agent dropped her phone in the North Sea as part of a concerted effort to destroy evidence, it was alleged on the final day of the “Wagatha Christie” libel trial.

I also recall during the MP's expenses scandal that Tony Blair's record of expenses had been shredded.

What do you make of it ngb?
What the ALBA party Roch, i think it will gain some ground now that the SNP is collapsing, theyve already had Ash Regan defect from the SNP, she was a leadership contender.

They've got another recruit: https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/politics/scottish-politics/6237726/western-isles-mp-angus-macneil-work-alba-westminster/

I still feel the free tuition fees issue is the SNP's trump card. Scots would be fools to risk that benefit, wouldn't they?

Yes.  Are they significantly different from SNP and could they draw significant support away from SNP.  Scottish politics looks like it's been interfered with behind the scenes to prevent a break up of the Union.

Yes.  Are they significantly different from SNP and could they draw significant support away from SNP.  Scottish politics looks like it's been interfered with behind the scenes to prevent a break up of the Union.

They have the same overall stated objective as the SNP but are more aggressive in their approach to achieving it.  They also do not have the same (in my view) extreme position towards trans rights and gender self recognition as do the SNP and, even more so, their partners in government the Scottish Green Party.  In my view the SNP is imploding and I suspect Alba will pick up members and votes from the SNP.  However, they have a long way to go before they could seriously rival the SNP in electoral terms.
