We don't know if the rifle allegedly seen by WPC Jeapes was the murder weapon,we are unsure as to which window it was seen at,and we are unsure as to whether it was loaded or not. We know that Ralph(Nevill)was known to be careful with guns in the house and I would assume that he kept control of the ammunition. Jeremy would know this and would have to check that the ammunition he left out on the kitchen worktop was still there when he entered the property early that Wednesday morning.

Sheila and Jeremy led for the most part separate lives. Maybe frightened is too strong a word to use,and if she and the twins walked round the farm one day and met Jeremy what of it..
Sorry Steve, your off into fantasy land again.  It's well documented that there were guns freely available for use, also ammunition.  There was a gun in the downstairs toilet and one on the spiral staircase from the kitchen...that is not detrimental to Nevill as that was the usual way farmers lived until after the change to the gun laws in the late ?90s?  Surely temptation enough for anyone who had suicide or anything else on their mind...

Yes maggie but the most important thing is guns coupled with ammunition. Jeremy's story is that he spilled some of the ammunition out onto the kitchen top. I think this is rather too convenient a story and too much of a coincidence to have this as well as the rifle on the settle.

You realise of course that Jeremy volunteered this information. He didn't have to say anything. The trouble is of course is that if he had kept quiet about it you would still probably condemn him for not telling them? Kind of damned if he did and damned if he didn't.
Also I would not say that Ralph was careful with guns either. Remember he had a 12 bore shotgun leaning against the wall. We are also told that he kept a loaded gun under the bed.
You say that the gun Julia Jeapes alegedly saw may not have been the murder weapon. But forget that according to some there was only the Anschutz in the house? Unless of course Pargeter really did leave his gun there?

Thing is Grahame, people first of all decide on their attitude then bend every situation to prove their point.imo

I agree with this interpretation, and imagine if you have a trial judge with an adverse attitude against the interests of the defence, it will almost certainly lead to decisions going in favour of the prosecution during trial, or when the judge sums up the case...

There's also something strange about where the photos came from. From the appeal:

Two further photographs of the Bible have been located by those advising the appellant. When they were taken and by whom they were taken is not known. It is clear from the photographs themselves that they were not taken at the scene. But must have been taken at some other location following the removal of the Bible as a potential exhibit by the police.

How can they not know when, where or by whom they were taken? Where did they find them?

Hi Bridget, sorry, I missed this post the other night - maybe the black and white photograph ofnthe open bible is one of those pictures?

There was guns everywere in that house, mind you nothing was illegal!! only in 1988 it was required to record the shotgun details on the license, so a license holder could buy a shotgun and sell it on no trace!! and steel cabinets were only enforced on section 1 rifles, handgun, carbines! but ammo then for rifles can be stored anywhere!! but it requires to be locked up as required by the 1988 act!

But shotgun cart has not changed nor any security is required to store shotgun carts.

even today gun laws to me are ok, you can even walk passed customs with a barrel blank!! a rifled barrel with no chamber! and later chamber it for a homemade sten gun.  ;D

Mind you police want every shooter to have soild exit doors or PVC, but some how a two half wooden slat door with only a latch is suit security for a farmer! including Nevils under stair gun cupboard!

Hi Caroline, I'm sure it is, it just seems odd that no one knows anything about where they came from.

Morning Susan!

Nope, nothing as exciting as pole dancing for me, family visiting has restricted my posting time.
