At the time of the trial, the hard evidence was the blood in the silencer which they said was Sheila's.

I've wondered about that too, but then it does depend what you mean by gone off her head.

blood testing in 1985 wasnt as advanced as it is now, and there is word that it could have been animal blood?

and if it is sheilas blood in the silencer, whos to say that it got in there through her been shot? if she struggled with neville in the kitchen as we know neville had gouge marks on his arm, sheilas blood could have got in through injuries she received during that struggle, its not impossible. and wasnt the silencer transported in the boot of a car along with blood stained underwear?

I think they could tell if it was human blood or not, and they could test for blood groupings as well.

They tested it again for the 2002 appeal when methods were more advanced - they could do DNA testing by then. That stuff is worth reading in the Appeal document. It's rather long and you need a lot of patience, but it is interesting.  ;D

The fingerprint evidence was rather scanty as well. I would have thought they could have tested the bullet cartridges for fingerprints but I've read nothing about that.

I also don't understand why Sheila Caffell would murder her entire family over a discussion over fostering. Colin Caffell has joint custody and would have to agree to this also. Just don't understand the motive for her going beserk.

If that conversation about fostering took place then Colin Caffel was disregarded. It's not clear to me what was said, but Pamela Boutflour confirmed that Sheila was very quiet that night and that June wanted to talk about Sheila some time. I've seen her statement somewhere.

when jeremy told colin about the discussion of fostering the twins. he knew straightaway that would have made sheila panic, and he did believe at first that sheila did murder them all.

junes religious mania was concerning colin, june was forever making the twins kneel and say prayers with her, even while brushing their teeth.

Sleuthing for justice
CHRISTMAS LETER FROM JEREMY
"...police received information from a local resident that they heard the sound of a shotgun blast come from the general vicinity of whf on the evening prior to the shootings, in particular, a local man by the surname of [my edit], reported that he heard a shotgun blast come from the direction of the farm, between 9:30pm and 10:15pm, on the evening of 6 August 1985..."

I wonder where this local resident was when he heard that.
