Sorry, but it's the complete opposite. The downward pressure would push the blood away. Similarly, if you prod an area of lividity it will go pale (provide it hasn't 'set').

Yeah, you've got it backwards Mike. Something on top of the body wouldn't cause it.

You are wrong, an object resting on top of a body will leave or produce visible marks...

Then you need the size of the potential contact area, ie footprint of the rifle

Yes, it also doesn't occur on the top surface of the body, because as it says in your link, it's caused by the blood settling to the lower parts of the body.

I am afraid it does get produced on the upper parts of the body, here look at the thighs of June Bamber in one of PC Birds crime scene photographs, now you tell me how hypostasis was produced on the upper part of her leg above the knee, if what you are saying has any truth to it?

Hi Tony, there must be some specifications on the gun somewhere....I see where Mike is coming from, it like sitting in the sun and the sun does not catch the areas that are covered it...I'm sure that the pathologist would have noted this...:)

Funny how there is evidence of Hypostasis on the top part of June Bambers left leg, considering there are some who suggest that it could not possibly occur like that because of gravity?

But what compression has caused this mark, mike,in your opinion?

It is impossible to say from that poor photo that there is evidence of hypostasis, it could just as easily be a bloodstain, or indeed a shadow. For a start, lividity is purple, not orange. One things for sure, June Bamber did not defy the laws of physics and become the first person in history to have gravity defying blood.

Looking at the photo I don't think it's shadow. Look at the shadow thrown by the knee and foot.

Whether you like it or not, June Bambers left thigh area appears to be showing evidence of Hypostasis, and if some object or other had been resting in contact with that part of her body after she had died, it would have shown up as a pale area in on that discolored area, like I have been saying all along...

If there had been an object resting against or upon her left thigh area, it would have left a mark created by compression of the skin / blood vessels...

So what has been compressing the other leg / calfs as they show the white marks you seem to desciribe on SC
