When I see proof from a police document written at the time that Ann Eaton handed in the silencer she found in the gun cupboard on 11th September 1985 I'll have another think about it.

Until then, I have no reason to think they would lie about it, and more importantly, I have no reason to think that the police would pretend that one silencer was another silencer.

The point is that the lab said there was blood which matched Sheila's in the silencer which they tested on 30th August, so if that was the Boutflour's silencer the police would have arrested them!
----------------------------------------

No, they didn't test the silencer on 30th August 1985, they didn't test any blood on that date, the first date blood was tested was 12th September 1985...

Kaldin - two silencers were handed back to the Boutflours under signature. If the Police didn't have these in their possession then how could they hand them back in this official capacity. I have no idea what a Boutflour silencer had to do with the investigation or why they gave it to Police - don't think any other local farmers handed theirs in for testing (that's just how absurd it is)

Sadly i think the sorry story of the silencers is true. What was David Boutflour doing scraping blood off a silencer anyway - that is tampering with evidence (apart from it being very weird indeed).

There won't be any prizes for guessing who were the likely candidates for the paint scrapes on mantlepiece and Aga.

I just can't understand why the Boutflours would hand in their own silencer. Is it possible that the two silencers handed back to them were found at the farm and the police gave them back to the Boutflours because there was no one else to give them to?

That business about scraping paint off is absurd I agree. It's also absurd that the silencer was taken to Ann's house. I can understand them taking it out of the gun cupboard, but they said they saw something on it so they should have put it down and called the police immediately - after all, it sounds like they had a hotline to the police from the start. They had no business taking any evidence away with them and then fiddling with it.

I wonder if anyone told them off for doing that. The judge should have said something to them.

Blood found in the silencer (DB/1) submitted to the Lab' on 30th August 1985 was not actually analyzed until, and from, 12th September 1985, onwards...

As a relative newbie, I'd missed this thread completely as you've probably gathered!

Very interesting.

Kaldin, there's this on Sleuthing...
www.sleuthingforjustice.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=3849&p=34816&hilit=robert+boutflour+silencer#p34816

There is allegedly a scan of Robert Boutflour's 1991 COLP statement, of which I have not obviously seen the original

Quote ["I do have a .22 Parker Hale silencer of my own, which I have shown to the City of London police. I think during the trial in (i think it says 1985?) I gave this to the Essex police. I can't recall why they wanted it but they took my son David's also and when I got it back it had a yellow sticky label on it with the number 675. That was still on my silencer when it was shown to DI Hammett and DS Young.."

Thanks.  :)

This gets stranger and stranger.  ???

I believe 675 is the number given during the first investigation under Taff Jones

Diary Entries of a Conspirator

Please click on image to enlarge...

Have printed this document as part of the Silencer Saga.

Clearly, a page is missing, the end of Sun Aug 11th, beginning Mon Aug 12th.

This is a very important date, given what's being claimed. Do you have this page of the diary?

Is it missing or was there just no entry on the 12th August (like there is no entry on the 15th August)?

There is definitely text at the top of page 4, that looks like a continuum of a previous page, not a date as all the other dates are given.

Might try magnifying it when I get a moment.

Hope this isn't censorship...

I think it just says Monday 12th Aug at the top of page 4.

Why has it been indented differently to all other dates?
