You mentioned many years ago that Jeremy was being investigated by the drugs squad and had been put under surveillance, though you didn't know for certain whether that surveillance included the night of the killings. You also stated years ago that Jeremy was under surveillance by the drugs squad when he let himself into the farmhouse via the bathroom window (after the killings). How did you know, and did Jeremy try to get any documents related specifically to that investigation? Did Jeremy confirm (or admit) to you that he was growing some cannabis plants in his garden? If the police knew about those plants, I imagine they might well have been interested in his phone calls. Has Jeremy been told specifically that information relating to this drugs squad investigation is unavailable to him due to PII?

Yes...

Jeremy knew about that part of the surveillance when he climbed into the farmhouse through the window you speak about, the drugs squad were following him as part of an observation which was part of the overall 28 day surveillance which I learned about a month ago. We did not know that he was actually under surveillance on the night of the shootings, although Jeremy and myself queried whether or not he might have been? Since that time, Jeremy has obtained copies of that part of the surveillances which took place in September 1985, but he has never asked for the earlier records because he does not know that on the evening/night of the shootings he was under surveillance by the drugs squad. I myself have only recently been told that this was the case, although I have not actually seen any evidence that what I have been told is true, I have no reason to disbelieve what I am being told...

The interesting thing about Jeremy getting into the farmhouse through  the window on this occasion, came about because Jeremy had not got a key to the door and he needed to get some money from the safe I think he said in the house, so he climbed in through the window and was observed by the surveillance team. The relatives made out that it was they who introduced the route of the window for Jeremy to get into the farmhouse at the time of the shootings, but they could have got that information from the police, hence why it was not until mid September 1985 that the relatives introduced the window access and exit route to the farmhouse?

Jeremy has previously spoken about a training exercise that took place inside whf whilst the bodies of his family were insitu, and he has identified a number of officers who were present and who took part in these exercises, it is possible that the surveillance team were amongst the unidentified officers at the scene on the morning of the shootings, and that this is/was why their identities have been glossed over...

Sorry if this sounds a stupid question Mike. But why all the cloak and dagger stuff in climbing through a window? Why didn't he just ask for the key?

The surveillance was provisionally for 28 days, and did not conclude until mid September 1985...

That means it was either extended beyond 28 days or he wasn't under surveillance until mid August, after the killings.

there was no-one at the farm, and I think he said he had left his key at his cottage, and he needed money urgently so he climbed in through the window and took some money out of the safe, I think it was wags for the farmworkers that he took the money from, but he left a note for the farm secretary stating that he had borrowed the monies and that he would put thre money back later in the day?

I am told it got extended because of the circumstances of the investigations into the killings, which altered from SC/688/85 to SC/786/85 and the coming forward of Julie Mugford?

The extension took in the information that Mathew McDonald was the hitman who had carried out the murders and was in the pay of Bamber who had paid him £2000 to carry out the killings as alleged by Mugford...

Quirky bit of info here, the quote is by Shonapugs...

Apropos of nothing, really - months ago, when I ordered "Blood Relations" from Amazon, for some reason they sent me 2 copies. One was OK, not bad nick, but the other one is heavily annotated, and every reference to Matthew McDonald is underlined in red ink. In the back it's stamped "PW-WEARE PRISON. I've often wondered about it.

This drugs squad operation looked at all sorts of possible links with the drugs underworld and the possibility that light aircraft were being used to dump drug hauls nearby to whf...
