This is sickening. How could Stan Jones and the police withhold this crucial evidence from the judge and jury at the trial? This raises numerous questions.
At what stage did Barbara Wilson tell Stan Jones about this statement of Sheila's?
Why did Mrs Wilson reveal this in confidence? Was this because someone else had told her this and that person had asked Mrs Wilson not to speak of it? If so, who told
her to keep this quiet?
Why did Stan Jones ever agree to allow such vital evidence, which could have changed the views of the judge and jury and the course of the entire trial, to be given in confidence?
Essex police and the prosecution could have compelled Mrs Wilson to give this evidence in court, so why didn't they do so?
