Not everyone uses their real first name and sometimes they use other christian names etc or adopt another name they prefer to be called by.
Otherwise the witness may have made an innocent mistake on the person's first name.
The subject matter of the discussion mentioned fits with it being Peter Eaton and would be unlikely in the extreme to be anyone else in my view.

What? That's just silly, you can't just go around changing people names or suggesting the name given was a mistake for no apparent reason.

Why does it fit with being Peter Eaton and why is it unlikely in the extreme?

It seems more likely to me that people are trying to blacken the Eatons name by making things up and misleading people, it's not necessary to do so, their actions have already shown them for what they are.

so what was Ralph or is it Nevill's first name then !!!
you know  ....JB's adopted father...

why use 2 names...people do..
my mate Pat or is it Paddy  whose real first name is Edward...quite common for people to use names that are not their real christian names.

another I know ...known as John....his christian names being Edward James.

so not silly at all..

or also people may mistakenly give an incorrect first name as an innocent error.

No I don't think that's the case at all.

It's well known that Ann is Christine's middle name and Neville is Ralphs middle name, it also seems that Ann's daughter Samantha (Edit:) Sarah uses her middle name. Peter Eaton used Peter, his middle name is Richard, as can be seen from his witness statements.

To simply say it refers to Peter for no reason whatsoever is, in the politest possible way, silly. On my planet anyway.

so your so sure, absolutely sure the witness, had not made a mistake in giving the wrong name? or that the police officer may have written it down wrong as it seems to have been knocked up after the event.

How many Eaton's would Nevill be involved in land deals with  , that would go in the local pub.
Barbara Wilson spoke of Peter Eatons dodgy ways...so right sort of character.

There again..if everything has to be perfect ..no mistakes then when the age given on some statements is obviously wrong...does it mean we have 2 witnesses with the same name but different ages? or do we apply common sense?

I think your common sense clearly differs to mine.

It says what it says, simple as that. If you want to go and suggest it actually means something else, for no particular reason then I'm afraid it's lost on me.

Heck you wanna go really crazy, I wonder if Sheila sometimes went by the name John Eaton Bamber Cafell, or what about Jeremy? As I've very concisely and clearly stated, I think your argument is silly. It's not even that much of a particularly key issue either, so I don't see where you are coming from, it's no wonder you have rubbed a few people up the wrong way.

Anyway thank's for that minus one thingy as well, I think it would serve me well to take Abs advice and stuff you on ignore.

Keira will post something later about this which may surprise you. It's her find so I'll let her post it.

Peter Eaton has a brother named John, Steve.

PRO. 1940. Jan to Mar qtr. Volume: 4A  Page:  1823 Maldon.

Am I correct in thinking that Nevill helped the two brothers purchase land for farms, so there was some property deal between them and Nevill?

Thanks chochokeira, good stuff.

The police action 1113 refers to Peter Eatons brother then.

I didn't know he had a brother, he doesn't seem to be mentioned elsewhere.

Well, if it was in fact John Eaton who punched Nevill and not Peter then I, for one, apologise to Peter to having assumed wrongly it was him.  And I do remember reading this  :-[

I wonder, though, why a statement was not taken considering the seriousness of the investigation - should have been "no stone unturned" to coin a phrase.

Is he worth following up. Is someone protecting him?

He wasn´t at the trial against Jeremy - we saw the rest of the family. Or maybe he was there keeping a low profile, while the rest of them were photographed having trouble keeping the smirks off their faces.
It is strange we haven´t heard about him. How did you find out about this keira?

With her Sherlock Holmes pipe and magnifying glass and dressed in her cape and deer stalker hat. She's a brilliant detective. ;)

I'm a headhunter, Abs, that's my profession. I'm also a local historian of the Blackwater estuary villages, so I have a lot of archives and subscriptions to databases. This particular data comes from the General Records Office indexes, that's what the references relate to. The references tell you that if you go the GRO and find volume 4A of the 1940 Jan-Mar quarter Birth Indexes, which anyone can do free of charge, you will find this birth listed on page 1823 and the record will state that the birth was registered in the Maldon registration district.
