Oh dear! I didn't know that, Dave!

I wonder if her Job coach Dezza (I mean Derrek) at the job centre counts this as looking for work?  ;D

Sigh!

A phone off the hook sets a alarm on at the exchange in those days anyway, so the operator does not have to listen in if they don't want to.

So probably just another mistake!

The operator DID listen in the log states that she heard movement and a dog barking. You can argue all day and all night that there was a 999 call, but there wasn't. The logs tell you that, the BT operator confirms what the logs say, but you fantasise about a non existent call from Sheila. It won't free Bamber, but it might make you feel better.

I am not talking about a 999 call I am simply saying there is a difference between a phone being "engaged" and a "phone being off the hook"

So please don't post misinformation that suits your point of view.

You seem to imply they are one and the same thing they are not.

So how does the automated system know whether my phone is dangling off the hook/cradle, or being held in my hand but I'm saying nothing?

Oh dear I fear a spat arriving soon.

It is simple. If you dial a number the system says you are engaged even if the connection has yet to receive a response and you just have the phone in your hand.

If a connection is made you are engaged until one of the participants ends the call. At that time the system regards you as off the hook after a given timing (pre-set) which also triggers the howler on your phone handset to prompt you to replace the receiver.

As previously outlined. Off the hook also displays a yellow light on the switchboard and engaged gives a red light

If you dial a number that is engaged you get the engaged signal on your hand set. Should your phone be siting idle the switchboard shows a green light. (inactiv)

Basically Jane it's as Bubo says, but anoher way is if you pick up a phone but don't dial a number the system will time out and the line becomes off the hook. In the old days of limited resources off the hook phones were a problem so a alarm would come on at the exchange etc.

Jeremy had left the kitchen phone off the hook. To give the impression Nevill had used it to phone him.

It would be common sense for the police to get this phone cleared.  So they can listen in to try to determine if there are alive people.

That is what Milbank did. Until he was told the police had entered WHF & he did not need to anymore.

To suggest that West, Bonnet, Milbank & a lot of other officers from the 7/8/85 onwards never said they recieved a phone call from Nevill or Sheila, is optimistic.

Both suggestions have received PSOR's.

Have you given the Aga evidence and the farewell letters a PSOR yet, Adam?

What was being discussed Adam is when the operator was asked to check the line at 5.45 the log at 5.47 says Phone engaged at scene.

Was this just another mistake?

The whole milibank situation is very skeptical.

The copper would have whistleblown years ago.

I have only managed to watch the documentary this evening.  I thought it was well researched and presented.  It will have an impact.  My initial reaction is that the key element which was very powerful was the silencer evidence.  That is seriously undermined and that alone could and should lead to a referral to the Court of Appeal.  I think there is some momentum behind the case now.

Millbank did make a strange comment in 2002 I think it was ILB, operation Stokenchrurch?

Something about he was surprised a record existed of the call?

Thanks ngb coming from you that is good news. The truth slowly but surely is coming out.

Hasn't the silencer already had a PSOR?
