The defence could have easily uncovered this in 1986 or at one of the appeals.

It wouldn't prove that Nevill was the person who called, merely that a call had been made. Jeremy could well have telephoned Bourtree Cottage from White House Farm, then left the phone off the hook.

It would have been interesting to see the time gap between the call from WHF to him calling the police.

All that is known is that he called Julie to give her an update before calling the police.

The short time span was supposed to be Bamber's alibi. I'm still not too sure which phone it was with the last dial memory facility. I think Julie in her statement says it was the portable brick-type phone, but elsewhere it's stated it was the blue phone in Nevill's office. There was also the controversy as to whether police used that phone on the first morning, thus deleting the last number called.
