The Port Arthur massacre 29 years on
« on: May 03, 2025, 12:31:AM »
The perpetrator, Martin Bryant, is still incarcerated at Risdon Prison, Hobart, Tasmania, with no possibility of parole. He was diagnosed by court-appointed psychiatrist Ian Sale as having "conduct disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity and Asperger's Syndrome". I note his mother Carleen has changed her mind about her son's innocence since the following interview. I also note she wasn't included in Irish investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre's first series of ten programmes entitled Murderers and their Mothers.

It's the 35 victims whom I'm most concerned about, but the interview is here: https://youtu.be/56JCVbaCqCM

There's more about the killer here: https://youtu.be/DCyZbr-7SG0

He's a sick puppy, with no possible doubt as to his guilt.

Do you think he qualifies for the M'Naghten rules of insanity? I've read his Wikipedia page and I do wonder whether he knows right from wrong.

Bryant was found to be fit to plead.

I'm not in a position to contradict the Australian authorities.

Possibly due to public clamour for a trial. I don't know, but he reminds me in some respects of a guy at church, and he's quite potty.

Sure, to you and me, he was as mad as a box of Frogs...

But, to the "legal process", apparently not !

I really don't know enough about the Australian legal process to comment...
