JB's Solicitors At Police Interviews Sep '85

Bruce V Bowler and Richard J F Pirie.

Afaik noone has sought them out for a contribution to a book/tv prod?  Or maybe they have been but didn't want to get involved.

It appears the following is Bruce Bowler.

He's no longer practising.  Probably retired.

But I'm unable to find an entry for Richard Pirie.  It appears he ended up in Jersey and is now deceased.

And he's not on the Law Society of Jeresey register.  Not sure why he wouldn't appear on both registers even though he is deceased.

BB represented JB during the first remand hearing at Maldon Magistrates.

If I recall correctly JB asked to change a solicitor and was solded by a magistrate who told him " it's not your right " I may have got this wrong but I distinctively remember that is the apparent dialogue between him and the magistrate.

It seems then JB sought the services of Kingsley Napley, Paul Terzeon.

And BB attended JB's police interviews under caution.  And at times Richard Pirie also took on the task.

With the benefit of hindsight he may well have been best sticking with them.

Hindsight is indeed a beautiful thing.

However can't really fault JB, he was facing some serious shit with limited knowledge of the criminal justice system.

But this seems to be typical of JB ie wanting to be flash with a high profile London firm when a local firm might well have done a much better job.  In fact hard to see how they couldn't.

Its the same with his campaign ie loads of books, tv prods, website, army of volunteers with grand titles but never gets anywhere.  None of the other high profile long running MoJ's have had all of this and yet they achieved success in around half the time.  Something not right and its not that he isn't innocent because he is!

Maybe he was recommended them, who knows. Prisoners talk.

Maybe an outside friend recommended them.

Complex case, who knows.

Often wondered how much predijuce ran through Essex prior to JBs trial, I never saw any hostile crowd chanting in any of the perspective perpetrator walk to remand videos. But there's every likelihood feelings were running high.
, he was facing two charges of murder that involved little children.

Maybe a change of location of the trial may have helped, often wondered if a neighbouring county or the old Bailey may have been fairer.

Who knows.

Some interesting points made here. I often think the tone of JB's campaign is too sneering. Literally, if you listen to the tiktok efforts.  I think he would have benefitted from a more modest and cautious tone that plants a seed in the viewer's mind. But it's easy to say that with hindsight.

I think in his position as a life sentenced prisoner he probably finds it difficult to keep on top of everything given his limited access to the free world we take for granted.

He has a whole campaign team, which is more than most have.

But he has the advantage of time!

Other high profile long running MoJ's have been successful in half the time.  They have not had a CT, website, low grade SM productions, high grade tv productions, books etc, etc.

I agree with what you've said other than the last sentence.

But are they more a hindrance than help?  Or even harmful?
