The reason Richards was called as a witness was because Bamber passionately said he hated (both) his parents. As an adult.

The last time I said I hated my mum was when I was 7.

I dont see it detrimental. I guarantee my kids have said it about me before. It's normal behaviour.

Bamber says he said " oh my fucking parents"

Just some throwaway remark dressed up as sinister.

If yesterday you hated me. Then today you can not stop the love that binds from me to you. And you to me

The prosecution thought it was worth using.

Of course they did, it's an effective tool.

... and its strong evidence of motive him talking to several people about killing his parents.

At a pinch, one might believe that Julie Mugford and the family colluded to both lie to the police and to the court that Jeremy talked about killing his parents, but they weren't the only two witnesses.

Well Dan, in fairness with Richards it's two guys who have shared some dialogue in early 1985 which was used in a trial 18 months later. It's a remark made which was used as a prosecution tool.

and nothing unreasonable about the prosecution using it as evidence (or a tool as you call it) and quite reasonable for the judge and jury to take it into account, which I am sure they did

Richard's testimony does support that of Julie, Mary & the relatives. In that he had a poor relationship with his parents.

By the way, was he called as witness during the trial? Or was his evidence by witness statement?

Its just a throwaway remark dressed up as sinister.

It's pointless evidence. If you want to call it that

I wouldn't even term it circumstantial

It is two guys who had a brief conversation. Richards even said he was discussing problems he was having with his own parents which is why the conversation came about.

It's a remark made by children, teens and twenty somethings throughout the UK and the world.

There is evidence of Nevill and Jeremy having a warm relationship.

Playing snooker together having fun, Michael deckers says they got on well. Michael Deckers was a close friend of Jeremy's.

Obviously every son daughter mother father has their differences.

As a juror it would be influential if a man in his 20's had said 'I f------ hate my parents'. A few months before the massacre.

With such conviction according to Richards.

If I was Bamber in the dock, whilst Richards was giving evidence I would have probably gave a yawn and and a sarcastic big laugh before being reprimanded by Justice drake for saying " what a load of bollocks, how is this relevant ?

But we all differ.

How did Richards construe Jeremy's comment? Did Richards take the comment at face value or did he think it was just a throw away comment? How do you know it was a throw away comment?

Because he spoke five words.

If he had expanded into detail and it had been a longer conversation then fair enough.

Richards was moaning about his parents at the same time!
