The Guardian contacted him. I think what he means is he's not had an interview about it. TBF, some of the criticism towards Milbank is justified. He could have been interviewed earlier.

If my interpretation of the log events is correct his involvement with the call was minimal and he may have judged that it was better for him and others to remain silent. He may not have discussed this with others. Given the nature of the event and the swirl of media interest over decades he did not wish to be involved as  he undoubtably would have been. His private life would be laid bare and exposed to scrutiny. Maybe he had something to hide in his personal life which would have been exposed.

Did you manage to track him down 6 years ago?
Yes, it wasn't difficult, but he wouldn't discuss the case

Perhaps:
1. He was told to keep his mouth shut, with implied threats to his career
2. Fear of reprisals from Michael Ainsley kept him silent
3. He refused requests to discuss the issue (I asked him 6 years ago)
4. Ainsley died
5. Now he feels free to discuss what has been on his conscience for the past 40 years.

What he's saying makes no sense.

1 and 5, given that he's still allegedly part of a force which may have "implied threats to his career" are complete contradictions.

From the article, it doesn't sound like his conscience was bothering him either.

So I'm guessing that 1 to 5 can be dismissed as tripe?

I myself have done a little digging and managed to find him. I was going to email him but due to current events I will respect his privacy and let events run their course.

The worst culprits are dead. They may have had a code of conduct to keep sctum. I don't know. There are certain questions that only Milbank can answer. Nobody is excusing Milbank for staying quiet. He's not being put on a pedestal.

Yes, if it brings you comfort as you contemplate your greatest fear - that Jeremy is going to be released and you will be shown to have reviled an innocent man.

Ah! Wouldn't life be a breeze if all one had to fear was the remote -nay, non existent- possibility of JB's release! It might be said, when the next application is thrown out, that you've been guilty of supporting  a guilty man.

How long have you been saying that now?

Behind Denis Eady's recent remarks, is a hope that the truth cannot stay imprisoned for much longer.  For myself though, I think Eady has hit the nail in the head as to why the truth will continue to be suppressed.
