No, I don't really agree with the thrust, although I can see that Jeremy is a transactional character. What I mean by this in layman's terms is: you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours: in this scenario, money in exchange for the destruction of five lives is entirely possible.

But Jeremy was squeamish, he had to practise the deed by strangling rats with his bare hands, and by all accounts he hated the sight of blood. Remember when Stan Jones elaborated on the killings Jeremy replied:" You're a hard bastard; I don't want to know things like that."

I don't see the opportunity Jeremy had at the Frog and Beans to meet covertly with a potential killer. He was, in any case, infatuated with Suzette and her chest (as many adolescent and older men are) and at that stage in his life could see no further ahead. It was only subsequently when his parents forbade the relationship that the diabolical plan began to germinate in his mind.

Some people have a small amount of knowledge in a small area, or hone in to perfect their skills, a specialism which they keep close to their chest and which blinds them to the consequences . So it was with Jeremy. He was good at calculating with money (remember his birth father was a comptroller), but he spent as quickly as he earned, despite June writing personal cheques in his favour, ostensibly to equalize the treatment between himself and Sheila and possibly a tinge of guilt that her sister was giving Ann the dividend from Osea Road, in contrast to herself.

It was the dearth of money which led to the murders: June's obstinacy coupled with the debt of £2000 which Jeremy still owed Nevill from his latest round-the-world trip, a figure which stuck in Jeremy's mind when he hastily made up the story of the proxy killer to Julie that same evening.

Regarding the rats, Steve, did JB ever say whether the rats were dead or alive when he tried to strangle them? It just occurs to me that, where there are rats, there is likely to be poison. Rats would be much easier to strangle if they were already dead. It would also have save him the bother of running after them to catch them.

He was often in London.

I believe he had many nefarious associates.

The story is apocryphal, but then it's from Jeremy's mouth. I didn't read anywhere in the books on the case that rat poison was used at White House Farm. As it was, the rats had apparently chewed some of his cannabis plants in the barn and were retarded thereby.

He was a show-off, a braggart, and hitherto a small-time crook. I would have expected someone to have come forward at least with some story, whether concocted or otherwise by this time, had he attempted to hire a hitman.

This was from Barbara Wilson Jane,  Wilson also told how Bamber would provoke his mother June by riding circles around her with his bike and trying to hit her. He also left a bag of live rats in her car.  Not hard to catch Rats in traps Jane.   You could be right about the Poison Jane, when the Rat has eaten it, it doesn't kill it straight away it can take several days, they become weak etc  so would be very easy to catch.

If he had approached someone from the underworld or some usavoury character, then neither he or the other party would tell as it wasn't in eithers best interests. Matthew McDonald was a billy bullshitter character and on many ways s convenient scapegoat. Jeremy wasn't afraid of him.

I'm not suggesting professional. Just unsavoury. Perhaps Jeremy promised large funds at a later date.

Certainly there was other bank accounts.

Perhaps a payment had been made prior.

I think from memory the story was in Julie's statement. The Barbara Wilson anecdote was separate.

Assuming Jeremy touted for business in that diabolical trade would anyone of sound mind have accepted the proposal?

This is another myth Steve, chewing a cannabis plant would not affect a rat.

Rats trapped in a car would be extremely dangerous Steve as you must know, June would have been in severe danger. Would JB really put rats in her car?

I once saw a dog nipped on the face by a rat, his face swelled up like a football.

Rats would have no trouble getting out of a bag, I once saw them gnawing through floor boards.

Depends on what he offered.

People have killed for a lot less.

You get a feel for a person when you meet them and sometimes I echo David boutflours thoughts " that he didn't have the gumption to do it

However that doesn't rule out arranging it.

David Boutflour also said that first morning at Goldhanger: "It's only what Jeremy is saying, isn't it.."
