The article is about the Osea leisure centre -

'Families would go to their vans and spend the entire holidays there. Fathers would either travel back and forth to work or stay from Friday night to Sunday night there. Children would be up late; barbeques were a group affair where several families would get together and party sometimes till the early hours.'

When she mentions the wall she says " there's no way he could have made the journey ,"

I will attempt to contact her for verification

Maldon Road only has 6 properties on the route.

Suspect they were there pre 1985.

The big cluster of properties are on Head, Church and Fish Street.

On the main road, opposite the village, ie, on the other side of the road, there's a small estate of houses, some of which front onto the main road. None would have been there in 1985. By the time the entrance to Church St is reached it's become more rural. Those houses you mention as being within the village compass, are rather grand and individual, architect designed dwellings. Again, none of there were built in 1985.

The Benham Close houses I did not include.

So if the 6 houses on Maldon Road were not there in 1985, he had an empty road.

Cycling through Head and Church Street was the main problem.

No need to take that risk.

Come to think of it desolate roads at that hour he could just bomb it In the car. Reaching speeds of up to sixty seventy miles an hour. Bews said Bambers car was the only one on route.

Park on pages lane, saunter down, jump back In the astra bomb back to goldhanger.

Total time probably five minutes each way max if driving at a high speed.

Cycling and walking is just too much messing around. The astra is the best bet. The more time he's out of head street increases his chances of getting caught.

Neighbours window watching and shutting of a car door waking families up is just not feasible
