I think experts have ruled out the poker as having made the marks. The Aga scenario is interesting.

It was suggested Steve at trial, because there was a poker next to the Aga, this could have been used, also it was included in the Dickenson Report?  Rather a coincidence that the tear is at the same level on the PJ's as the marks though?  This could explain why the PJ's was still on him?

If Neville is slumped forward as per picture and his arms are dangling down in the drooped position, this would stretch the PJ fabric and open up the hole exposing the bare skin?  Try it?

By leaning forward as per Neville, with his arms drooping down, this in turn pulls on his lats and broadens his back which would stretch the PJ's exposing the hole in the PJ to bare skin.
