I wonder if it's for youngsters though, lookout? One certainly needs a lot of energy to renovate a property, deal with the power and water supply, and where is the nearest grocery store I wonder?
Great to see you posting again, by the way.
You'd be surprised at the numbers of middle-aged people who buy chateaus ( x ) to restore. Afterall it's mainly they who have the money to spend. Many of them have projects in mind to turn outhouses with the grounds into gites for ongoing businesses. As I said, many aren't youngsters unless they're the siblings of the buyers and college permitting will lend a hand with some part of the building work.. Cherente seems to be a popular area, very quaint in parts with villages and the usual grocery stores. It's as near or as far away you wish to be to " civilisation " as you want.
If I'd been younger it's a country I would have gone to. For historical places it's a gem as there are some beautiful places to visit, lovely reasonable hotels off the beaten track and usually offering good food too.
I must say I've learned a lot by watching these videos of restoration and the sheer man-power and hard work that has gone into them. " Brian's life in France " is a good watch. An Irishman who moved to France, bought a farmhouse and did it up to make it habitable, but he does really well and does journeys around the area to different places----definitely worth a watch.
It's good to drop in here now and again and I feel so lucky that my health is holding out okay, I surprised myself really even though it's taken me 3 years to get where I am now.
Many thanks for your kind words.
