Not sure how long you plan to go for to Cape Verdi, but reports iv'e had it's pretty boring?
It's probably one of those hotel-based TUI holidays. Nothing wrong with people enjoying a hard-earned break, but for those types of holidays you could be anywhere ,really. https://youtu.be/gTaDELwJUV0

There's always the risk of being burgled whilst one is away, plus sometimes it's a bit dispiriting coming back to an empty house from holiday and going through the motions again. I think once I do move it will be for good.

Well if you have a good quality alarm and neighbours that are happy to remain alert all should be ok.

But would you want to move overseas?  As I get older I would prefer to reside in the UK where I know I can access good quality medi and dental care.

I know it's frustrating having paid into the NHS all those years and then having to take out private health insurance abroad. It's just one of those things one has to bear. Isn't there a waiting list anyway for most medical procedures now? Fortunately I have all my own teeth, so don't need dental work done at the moment, touch wood.

This is top of my list so far, browsing the bookshops, walking the tree-lined streets, an incognito figure sipping coffee in La Biela, attending church on Sundays.  The retirement visa requirement is $1007 monthly income. https://youtu.be/jYyOWptJPEE

Great to visit but would not want to live there.

Yes but it is usual to have routine check-ups both medical and dental.  I was very pleased to have a clean bill of health around spring as I had been somewhat remiss in having them done with Covid.  Just the usual: smear, titty, poop, diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, kidney and liver.  Cholesterol was 4.1 when should be 4.0 or under.  I have taken steps to address this by way of making slight changes to my diet and reducing my alcohol intake.

Anyway I would not want to live in another country for extended periods.  I like the UK and the 4 seasons.  Also when I do travel I like to visit different places.  I would not want a holiday home abroad and then feel committed to spend a lot of time in that destination.

Not sure how long you plan to go for to Cape Verdi, but reports iv'e had it's pretty boring?

But its only a 6 hour flight and a 2 hour time difference.  Sounds ideal to me:

The only thing that wouldn't appeal would be the horse riding.

Plus it helps the economy of a developing country.

Midnight express used to put me off Turkey.

Ironically the film was actually produced and filmed in Malta.

I was reminded of Wilfred Owen's melancholic poem Futility today, and reproduce it in full:

Futility

Wilfred Owen
1893 –
1918

Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields unsown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds—
Woke once the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides
Full-nerved, still warm, too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth's sleep at all?

Legend ILB, not only that, look where he was Born....................John Vincent Hurt was born on 22 January 1940, in Chesterfield, Derbyshire,[9][10] the son of Phyllis (née Massey; 1907–1975), an engineer and one-time actress, and Arnold Herbert Hurt (1904–1999),

I think it was Shirebrook though?......................  One of stage, screen and TV's finest transatlantic talents, slight, gravel-voiced John Vincent Hurt was born on January 22, 1940, in Shirebrook, a coal mining village,

Shirebrook was a village, you only entered in the Pubs if you knew someone at one time, Bolsover was also like this as well.   Mike Ashley has set all his buisneses up there Sports Direct,  Evans and the Fraser Group, it all comes under the Brand FRASERS now.  Lot of Eastern Europeans live there now and work in the Warehouses

I'm reading a few comments here. As for carbon footprint, I don't think it's as big an issue for the industrial North as you Southerners. https://www.reddit.com/r/Brompton/comments/1fmx2en/i_tried_the_g_line_and/
