Got back from Cornwall last weekend, loved it, first time iv'e been to Bude, iv'e always gone further South in Cornwall.  Bude is somwhere i could Retire, the Bude canal was great for cycling and the Beaches and the Beach swimming pool just offers the perfect retirement place.  Off to Ely and Cambridge tomorrow cyling/camping [ love the Cathedral's] then travelling to South London on Sunday and into next week and then who know's, i did think of Suffolk Jane, but maybe next time?   This is Retirement Steve [Brompton and train] I only came back for my knee injections this week or i would have stayed out.

Interesting about Cambridge is the guided bus track linkining St Ive's Huntingdon to Cambridge, it runs for about 16 miles alongside the busy A14 and you can cycle along side on the cycle path, quite funny seeing buses that don't require steering flashing past you, i think it's the longest in the world

Good for you Hardy Boy. Keeping active and having a quality of life is what it's all about. I'm still undecided as to retirement location. The only prerequisite is a drier climate than that which I'm experiencing currently, so if I do stay in the UK I have a map to guide me. https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Annual-average-precipitation-map-of-the-UK-showing-location-of-three-case-study-sites_fig2_258364596

Visited Ely and Cambridge and Norwich and camped in Cambridge.  Ely Cathedral is something else,  iv'e never seen details like it on the outside, it put Cambridge and Norwich into shame  ;D ;D  I might make it my mission to cycle to visit all the Cathedrals in the UK.  Ive always been inspired by the architecture and the work that went into them from my favourite book, KEN FOLLET The Pillars Of The Earth. Then went to South London and Camped at Crystal Palace.

Toured around my Favourite County, Norfolk, this time with the Car, visited, Sandringham, Hunstanton, Wells next to sea, Sherringham Cromer, wroxham Potter heigham, Great Yarmouth, Hemsby, amd Holt. the home of Gresham's private School where Bamber attended, i was suprised how near to the Coast this is and caught the steam train from Sheringham to Holt, you had to walk past the Gresham's School's houses to get to Holt, it sits in 200 acres of grounds

A game changer from BROMPTON comes out next week, The Brompton G line bike, it comes with 20 inch wheels instead of 16 inch wheels, also comes with disc brakes giving a better stopping power, everything else is the same as the 16 inch, the same fold and style.  This will be aimed at travellers and rural cyclists instead of city cyclists?  Iv'e had an email from Brompton last week to see if i want ot go on the waiting list, i got my response back yesterday i am on the list, the launch is next week with a limited editon number available, doesn't mean i will get one, i think the first batch will sell really quickly so i might have to wait till next year?

After studying the G line, it ticks all boxe's for me, although slightly bigger, it is still acceptable on trains and underground and most importantly on eurostar as a folding bike, eurostar has a limit of 85 cm for folding bikes without booking, and the G line comes in at 72 cm, they even do the Electric version as well.

I like the Trail Dust white Colour, have a look at the video i think it's been tested on over 250km of use?  Different riders have all given it the thumbs up on test.

Worth going to. I imagine Snape Maltings would be of interest to you, too.
I think the classical music event is now held at Snape Maltings, Jane. All that coast is new to me. Hardy Boy seems to have got it all covered.

Possibly more of a holiday than retirement destination, an alternative to the Canaries, but where there's Christianity there's always hope: https://youtu.be/C4-JLZWJvlQ

I have recently been looking at Cape Verde as a winter holiday destination.  Not interested in what religion it is being a Humanist.

A good friend (English) lives in a remote part of Turkey with her husband (Turkish) of 20 plus years.  She works remotely for the NHS in UK.  They have built a beautiful home in a remote location in the mountains.  Just a few homes scattered about and a mosque.  The nearest village is about a 15 minute walk.  Steep decline/incline.  It has a spa and a couple of hotels and restaurants but no alcohol anywhere.  I like it around 5am in the morning when the prayer calling starts and it reverberates around the mountain.  The nearest place to purchase alcohol is a 20 minute drive away and even then it is just a couple of what we would describe as an off-licence.  Bursa is the nearest large city.  We fly in and out of Istanbul and often have a few days there.  Interesting city and booze readily available in most places but not all.  I like to go somewhere culturally different so the lack of booze just adds to it really.  When we visit the husband's family, they are Kurdish, we eat on the floor.  Have to dress conservatively and def no booze.  My friend has on occasion made up G&T's in water bottles  ;D

That particular locality wouldn't do for me. I've been hearing good things about Istanbul, though I believe there are restrictions in what areas foreigners are able to buy property.

I do not know what the rules/regs are on UK citizens buying property in Istanbul.  I would not like to live in a very busy city let alone retire to one.

Why not just continue to live in the UK and take yourself off to warmer climes during the winter months?  You can usually find good bargains in Jan and Feb.  Plus you will save money having the heating on min, just to prevent pipes freezing, while away?

There's always the risk of being burgled whilst one is away, plus sometimes it's a bit dispiriting coming back to an empty house from holiday and going through the motions again. I think once I do move it will be for good.

This is top of my list so far, browsing the bookshops, walking the tree-lined streets, an incognito figure sipping coffee in La Biela, attending church on Sundays.  The retirement visa requirement is $1007 monthly income. https://youtu.be/jYyOWptJPEE

Not sure how long you plan to go for to Cape Verdi, but reports iv'e had it's pretty boring?
