Lets get out this Rat race Steve, be like this guy.  He's a free lance for the Guardian, i'm listening to his book.  He was just selling up and moving to Buenos Aires and out the blue decided to cycle around the coast of GB, I never knew it was 5,000 mile around the coastline?

I'd like to Hardy Boy. Everyone is looking for a better work-life balance. Argentina has recently introduced a higher minimum income requirement, ostensibly because they were attracting too many Americans on social security. I think there's some leeway on individual cases.

This is a good video on the Algarve: https://youtu.be/h-GYKyZQpA4

Places you never hear anything about:

Laos
Paraguay
Uruguay
Chad
Honduras

Wouldn't have a clue if any were good for retirement. But you never seem to hear anything about them.

Chad is too violent, Laos not really my culture. https://youtu.be/egN-CWuXH_M

Uruguay is the most developed on your list. I could live in Asunción, Paraguay. https://youtu.be/fYqXTuJKsHE

No place like home Steve, move to the Coast in Norfolk somewhere, Hunstanton is nice?  the remarkable thing about Hunstanton, your on the East Coast but the sun set's looking out to sea.  That's because Hunstanton Face's West.  Norfolk has over 650 medieval churches - the highest concentration in the world.  The Climate is good and the Land is flat, youv'e got the Norfolk Broads and plenty of wild life and the pace of life is pretty layed back Steve.

You could do worse than look at Suffolk, Steve. The skies are huge, the landscape divine. Wonderful, medieval history at every turn. The people are friendly. Village life is how village life once was, a close but welcoming community...........not that I'm in any way biased, of course!

Hope you called in on Wrabness. Beautiful beach area on the River Stour opposite the lovey grounds of the Hospital School. Don't forget your 'noculars. Some worthwhile bird watching.

Other than the obvious tourist hotspots, there is much tranquility to be found. Wonderful deserted beaches. Plenty of good B&Bs should you wish to take a closer look at the area.

Yes, I'll do that Jane. Do you think there's a difference between spending a holiday in a place and settling there for good? I ask this because some time ago a work colleague had applied for a promotion in Cornwall, but withdrew when he overheard someone remark they accepted outsiders "after a few years".

Yes, I do, Steve! I think there's a huge difference between our 'holiday heads' and our 'resident heads'. Short stays in villages should help us to integrate -village pubs, local shops, and churches being good first ports of call. Showing interest and asking questions will help to give us a 'feel' for the place.

Strangely, I've always felt myself to be watched from behind curtains when I'm in the interior of Cornwall. I feel there's something, almost incestuous, about it which suggests visitors/newcomers aren't given the warmest of welcomes. This obviously doesn't apply to the tourist areas.
