My choice of a nice drop of splosh is Tudor Rose, the alcoholic's friend. What have you been up to, Choch?

Ok, Tudor Rose it is. I've not been up to anything, Shona, I'm too busy working, organising demos and on here to get up to anything at all, I promise you.

It's just that this time, the Chair of our campaign group wants a really massive demo. Personally, I think he's being too ambitious. Every demo we've organised has been very successful because we've been mindful of the limits of our own capabilities and aimed for around 200 to 300 people to attend each one. We've have always had an attendance of 300 or so and have been well pleased with that. Around 300 people demonstrating against something is impressive.

But this time, says our Chair, he wants something bigger. I think that's daft. To me, a large part of our success has been due to careful management of expectations: we tell the police and our council that we're going to have around 100 to 200 demonstrators, so when over 300 show up it scares the daylights out of the police and the council - which is the whole purpose of our demos. If we start forecasting that a huge number will show up, even if more people attend than ever have previously, but it's not a huge number, it will look as though our support is waining.

I hope Jailman doesn't look like Jim Branning. After the stroke.

It is a truly lovely song, but if you want to get your rocks off, it must be REM, Nightswimming.

How can I tell you. Followed by Blackbird singing in the dead of night, Here comes the sun, and My Old Man's a Dustman.
