We have to remember, when Bews and Myhill passed Bamber on route, they did the right thing due to the nature of the call, it’s no use at this stage pulling up outside the farmhouse, it could have triggered off a response from Sheila who was a Nutter in their eyes from the information they had received and possibly got a gun.
They’re passed Bamber so they pull up short of the house in the Lane, wait for Bamber and then do the right thing again, they started to gather more info from the only possible witness at this stage. Bews and Myhill set off to gather more information from the farm house and surroundings and decide to pull back and question Jeremy again, he could help them probably further, it’s at this point Myhill says to Bamber after discussing various things, “Why did your Father decide to ring you and not the Police if there was trouble”
So Bews and Myhill know nothing about any other phone call regarding Nevill to Police, they didn’t say to Jeremy we’ve had a report your fathers rang, they didn’t say to Jeremy there’s been reports of shooting.
They probably thought at this stage, lights are on so we might as well give it another check, but they must have asked themselves, what the hell have they sent us for we can’t do anything here, She’s a nutter, liable to use the gun, plenty of guns to use, even Jeremy seems scared to go in he’s already said I don’t get on with her and I don’t like her, so what’s our chances, so they do the right thing, they don’t antagonise the situation and send for a policing unit that can deal with it better. If they had a figure at the window or door to converse with, they probably would have tried to get this persons attention, as it happened there wasn’t any. After Bews makes the call, he spends time with Jeremy making plans of the house ready for the raid team. Bews actually goes back to the house for another check with Myhill, if they were sure someone was alive with a gun at the window, I’m sure they wouldn’t have risked this.
Figure at the window, it’s probably right what they’re saying, light etc, when they check they all agree it was this. It’s probably spooked them at this stage, they’re all taking cover, but to make sure and like when ever anyone comes from out a hiding place or breaking cover you make a dash for it so as not to be seen, it’s a natural thing to do.
I think about 3.55 am was the Approx time given that Bews went to have a second look at the house with Bamber, they didn’t stop long and made their way back (run) so it wouldn’t have took long anyway. Not long after and again they are all Approx times, Adams picks up on the radio Chatter about possible firearms incident at 4.00am, this would coincide with Bews and co speaking over the radio, Adams contacts HQ and tells them he has a firearms team at ready if needed. He says he didn’t hear anything for a while but they would need authority to draw firearms, hence the possible delay in getting this Authority.
Obviously he’s told to make his way back to HQ in preparation for drawing firearms he arrives roughly and again Approx 4.30 am, at HQ there was a dog handler on duty and he offered to direct the team to WHF and they arrive at 5.00 am
