Just watched Code of a Killer

In 1986 Colin Pitchfork was convicted of double child murder

Why wasn’t DNA evidence used in the appeal process for Jeremy Bamber and why did special branch destroy evidence that could have been used in an appeal

Colin Pitchfork is a British double child-murderer and rapist. He was the first person convicted of rape and murder using DNA profiling after he murdered two girls in neighbouring Leicestershire villages, the first in Narborough, in November 1983, and the second also in Narborough, Leicestershire in July 1986. Wikipedia

Julie Mugford the main prosecution witness was guilty of numerous crimes, 13 separate cheque frauds, robbery, and drug dealing and also making a deal with a national newspaper before trial that if she could convince a jury her ex boyfriend was guilty of five murders she would receive £25,000

There's neither reason nor excuse why EP couldn't have used DNA testing.
Stuff was destroyed in case the testing was even mentioned !
