.
But even if Jeremy is innocent, I believe Brett morally corrupted him and was the driving influence behind Jeremy's insensitive behaviour after the deaths.
JB's relationship with Brett Collins is an interesting one. I think it's important to get a full understanding of it.
So in 1983 Jeremy ends up staying at Brett Collins place in St. Mary's Bay, Auckland, via someone he'd met in Australia. Even back then St. Mary's Bay was (& is) one of Auckland's most exclusive suburbs.
With the house having a downstairs flat it must have been worth a bit.
Collins at the time being 29 must have had a good income to be able to purchase such a property.
By selling the house to go to London and not renting it out, would indicate Collins was intending to maybe leave NZ permanantly.
So for 2 years he and Jeremy must have kept in regular touch, prior to Collins's arrival.
The 8 year age gap could indicate that Collins may have been a driving force in keeping the friendship alive.
Seeing the opportunity of doing the OE (Overseas Experience, rite of passage for Kiwis) with the financial cushion of landing in the lap of a wealthy family.
So it's not surprising that once Jeremy had his inheritance frozen, Collins would cut and run to Sydney. The then economic escape hatch of NZers. As the NZ economy tanked in the mid 1980s.
Since returning to NZ it appears Collins is now a declared bankrupt. I would say he is quite a mercenary character.
