Dogs and Dogmanship

I have rottweilers.  I've generally always had this breed.  Does anybody else here keep dogs?

Labrador Retrievers.

In my experience, they are always the friendliest dogs, especially good around children.

I've enjoyed Andrew Cotter's videos:

I had a German Shepherd for nearly 13 years until he died. What a faithful, loyal and intelligent dog he was. I'd have got another but it wasn't advisable since I was getting older, not fair on the animal.
Prior to that I had an Afghan hound, stupid, scatty and quite disobedient but she was lovely.

One daughter had a Golden Labrador and the other one had always had Rottweilers for years up until 12 years ago when she got a cross Pyrenean/ Bernese, size of a small horse, but the gentlest of giants . He sadly died in January this year. He was far more trustworthy around children.

I've made do with 3 cats  ;D. I've had pets around me all my life and would miss them if I didn't have them

My experience is similar to yours.  I think big dogs are best.  I had a Jack Russell Terrier once - lovely dog, and useful as a rat catcher, but they can be quite hyperactive, aggressive and a handful, and overall not my cup of tea.  This particular terrier I'd inherited and the previous owner had not trained him.  He had a bad case of 'small dog syndrome': used to bark and growl at large dogs (except my own, who he got used to).  Much prefer the larger dogs, which are fine as long as you train them right.

Hi QC. Boston Terrier, I’ve always loved the Bull breed and it was a choice between Frenchie, Bulldog or Boston, I went for Boston because they are a bit more Lively for longer walks.  He’s ten now and his eyes have deteriated so his walks are restricted somewhat now.  You would have got on well with Sami, he was a Rotti man and always had a photo of one as Aviator.

It makes me laugh about dogs looking like their owners. Something I tend to look at when I see a dog and its owner and if I'm not careful one of these days I'll be whisked away for suddenly laughing to myself.
I've noticed dozens and wished I'd taken a sly photograph.

I can only have one at a time - the most was two when I was a boy.  I don't know how she copes with this many...

As a child around 8 to 10 years old I often walked an Afghan Hound that belonged to a young(at the time ) couple who lived across the road. This was the early 70s and local kids knocking on the door of neighbours to take the dog for a walk was considered normal. My friend and I would get a few pence in return and Candy (the Afghan) got plenty of exercise. It's how we earned pocket money back then. She was exactly as you describe yours.
My first dog was a rottweiler(Cheech, as in Cheech and Chong) but since then I have had border collies. My current one, Ted, is he of the unsuccessful cat, squirrel and old men in mobility scooter herding infamy.

I recognise the behaviour in this one:

Whenever 'walk' or 'beach' are mentioned, my dog Tyson's ears prick up!  Regardless of weather!
