Yes, I now understand that a drive to Brum is drive to Leicestershire and then you swing west. Was surprised how close it was along that A42.  When I drive through East Midlands now, I always think of that film Dead Man's Shoes (2004). Pretty sure it was filmed somewhere around Derbyshire / Notts.
Its Derbyshire Roch, Matlock Town and the farm they film at is Bonsall just outside Matlock.  You would come off the M1 at junction 28 for that.  In between junctions 29/28 to the left of the M1 travelling South is Hardwick Hall, they filmed scenes for Harry Potter there, owned by the National Trust.  Also between junction 29A/29 to the left is Bolsover castle or (Bowser castle to the locals) Dennis Skinner Country,  if you pass this area again you should see both of these places from the M1.

Thanks RJ. Yes, saw the signs for Bolsover and Hardwick Hall. Funny county Derbyshire - I knew someone at Uni who said he was from Glossop and that it was not far from Manchester. I would never have equated Derbyshire with Manchester but I think Glossop must be in the north west of the county.

Yes it is Roch north west, Derbyshire is bordered by six other counties if you count South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire as separate.  It’s got the notorious snake pass route this was the main road from Sheffield to Manchester at one time called the A57, the woodhead pass route is now considered the best route.

Many times I’ve driven over snake pass to attend midweek Liverpool matches, getting home in the early hours! Stunning views on nice days. Less so at night!

I don’t know Bleaklow, but lived in West Sheffield for many years at uni and after, so have walked round Ladybower loads of times. Wirral life for me now :)

Thanks Petey, Bleaklow is opposite Kinder Scout, you would have passed through the Pennine way where it crosses  over the A57, if your coming up from Ladybower you have Kinder on the left and Bleaklow on the right.  Yes it’s a stunning drive in daylight, but not so at night especially winter times.  West Sheffield, obviously for the University and not far from Eccllesall road and the start of the Peak District.

I’ve been looking at the Wirral trail, not quite sure it will be long enough to go out there just to do that one, so I might fit it in when I’m back out Mersey again.

The only time I’ve been to Anfield was when Chesterfield played them and went 0-3 up after 48mins, they drew 4-4 in the end, 1992 in the then League cup.

when we  thought there might have been eight goals but we didn’t think we’d get four of them!”  Dave Lancaster.
Chesterfield visited Anfield knowing that in their previous home game Liverpool had scored six in a European tie.  However the Spireites took a three goal lead in front of the Kop against a team featuring David James, Jamie Redknapp, Mark Wright, Ronnie Rosenthal and Jan Molby.  By the end of the match Chesterfield had scored four goals in a cup game against Liverpool at home for the first time that century.
Strikers Dave Lancaster and Steve Norris each scored a brace but every one of the player that night might have made a claim for Man-of-the-Match.  The Sheffield Star awarded their Star player to each of the thirteen!

I lived just off Eccy road for a number of years and in Crookes while at uni.

Feel free to give me a shout if you’re ever up Wirral way 👍

I’ve had many good nights on Eccy road. I used to live next to the botanical gardens. Then always too tempting ending up in napoleons at the end of the night 😂

I used to go to the dog track frequently, but never Napoleons, it’s too costly.

Especially as I usually headed there drunk after a night out! The one on Eccy Rd was just too tempting to head to at the end of the night then walk home!

Ha Ha, I was in Sheffield yesterday Petey, it just seems run down a little and dated, we went in Leopold square and it was dead, the high street seems to be losing its battle I’m afraid.

Emlyn Hughes used to live near or in Sheffield, he used to play football in the Sunday League, I’ve played against him a few times and he was a gentleman, utter respect for that bloke.  I loved watching Dalglish, Alan Hanson and Keegan play, Liverpool have had some great sides.

I’m in Sheffield this weekend for my gf’s 40th bday celebrations. Kyle Walker played at Goodwin (uni Astro) a few times. He was playing for Spurs at the time so I got a bit of a shock when I was lining up against him!

Liverpool have had some great sides and players over the years and I’ve had the privilege to meet a few of them. I’ll never go to a better game or atmosphere than when I was sat in the middle of the kop when we beat Barcelona 4-0 a couple of years ago.

Have a great weekend Petey, I’d catch the train there and back and take in the beautiful scenery through the Peak District.

Hope you wasn’t up against Walker, that guy has speed, I think he’s the fastest in the prem or there about?

I know at Uni there is a diverse dialect, but how did you get on with the Dee dars 😂😂🙈

Yes remarkable, even without Salah and Firmino and Suarez making a return 👍
