surely its not shameful for someone to get a illness could happen to anyone, not sure your point is correct
Because June herself wasn't always well, she had little sympathy for Sheila because she didn't " get on with things " like she herself had to do.
It's not shameful, but even these days some people are reluctant to admit to or talk about mental illness. Others love to talk about it.
Shame is a strange thing, Sami. We're not born feeling it. It gets dumped on us along with responsibility. It may be that because of her devout religiosity, June felt that Sheila's illness was God's punishment because she'd had sex outside of marriage. She could never have told her vicar about that.
Thats why I’m suffering Jane 🙈🙈
i see lookout.if true its totally wrong of june to think like that.she should have known from her own experience and been more understanding
so true jane ,excellent post
Let's not forget that when June was in India she'd have seen some horrendous injuries during her time doing first aid/nursing which would have affected her outlook on illnesses in general.
Ann didn't know Sheila and the twins were coming to stay either. Perhaps she and June didn't speak as often as has been implied.
