Gill should have raised the alarm when she had the chance. I know it's easy to say with hindsight: https://youtu.be/YdM4dqEqQA0
Gill had no idea none of the other family members were dead, each time he took Gill anywhere he would tell her he was going and leaving them alone after she had done what he said, and that would be the end of their ordeal with him. Even her Husband had the same chance to alert others, especially when he took him to his Factory where he was a director [Bretts Plastics] but Gill Begged Richard not to say anything, saying It will be over soon, he's going after youv'e got the money out the safe?
He had killed Her daughter and her father first, but Gill had no idea, even Hughes pretending to take them meals upstairs. On the last day when he did leave with Gill as the hostage, her Husband Richard, and her mother were both still alive all in seperate rooms to each other, they set off, and then he made her turn the car around and go back saying he had forgot something, that's when he went back in the house and killed Richard and her mother, her Mother made it downstairs into the yard and that's when the alarm was raised by the Neighbour.
My Cousin was a Police Officer stationed at Bakewell under Peter Howse and these two officers were the first two called out when Hughes first attacked the Prison Guards, Hughes crashed the Car in the village of Beeley because of the weather, and they tried to track him with the Dogs over Beeley Moor, the weather was so bad and the snow so deep, it was Probably about a 9/10k tredge for Hughes over Beeley in horrendous conditions, this tredge took him to the main Road, that would have been the only one passable by car, the A619 to Baslow, and that's where Pottery Cottage is.
Gill, had to put up with all sorts of rumours after the ordeal, even some suggesting she was having an affair with Hughes, all totally unfounded and untrue, Gill was in survival mode, thinking she was doing the right thing, as far as Gill knew, everyone was alive, all she had to do was do as he said and he would be gone, then they could raise the alarm.
I wouldn't read the first book brought out by a reporter of the Sheffield star, i knew Gill hadn't and didn't want the book, but when Peter Howse and CAL bought the second book, Howse said Gill had basically given him Permission, so i read the book, Howse had access to Police files and first hand knowledge, i felt cheated and sorry for Gill when i later discovered she hadn't given permission?
The Derbyshire Times would like to clarify that the family involved in the Pottery Cottage murders of 1977 say they have not spoken publicly about these crimes and will never support any bids to gain financially from the tragedy.
The family of Gill Moran, who suffered terribly both during and after these crimes, has not directly or indirectly given permission for any books to be written on this awful incident.
Mrs Moran would like readers to know that she has not seen or spoken to Peter Howse since 1977, shortly after the tragic events. She has also never met any authors who have written about this traumatic subject.
A family spokesman said: "Gill has never been interviewed for a book, film or other media. The exception is one interview with Lynda Lee Potter in 1977, on the advice of her solicitors. This was driven by the need to stem the hunger and harassment from the national press, and to dispel false rumours. Gill will never speak to any media organisation and has made no financial gain from recent books and articles."
