Of course dogs can smell blood - I don't think anyone said they couldn't?
-
exactly so any dog can find a body if the body has open wounds and cuts as Jodi had.

As long as that dog has been trained to lead people to that particular scent.
Any dog can smell drugs but no good unless the police train it to.

I believe the dog was on a lead? If so, it was under the control of the handler and not free to discover anything on it's own.

doesnt your dog ever smell somthing and try to pull you towards it.

Of course, but we're talking about a tuft of grass or a tree near-by. He doesn't pull over any kind of distance. Given that the dog in question was tethered, it would be difficult to prove that it was the dog that found the body.

What difference does that make?

What a lot of junk.
1. The dog never found the body, Luke did(that is because he knew where it was). If it were to be believed, the dog reacted close to where Luke hid the body. I call BS on this, if the dog did indeed react, it could have reacted to loads of different scents.
2. Dogs will scent almost anything, that is not the key here, it is the person that handles the dog, that is the problem. We train dogs to do a variety of different tasks, but for specialized tasks, like sniffing for drugs, finding people, crowd control, you also need to have a trained handler, you also have to factor weather conditions, terrain, other animals, other people and lots of other things that leave scents behind, this is why handlers are trained, to recognize these factors, to recognize the dog's reaction when it finds something of interest, a dog trained or not, will go on a sniffing spree and react in many ways, to different scents.
3. Regardless of what pet owners say to their dog's. Dog's do not understand our language, yes you can tell a dog to sit, but it does not recognize the word sit like we do, it recognizes the command in a different way, and it can take lots of practice, we cannot just say out loud, go seek Jodi, it don't work like that.
4. Luke was not a trained handler, he had no idea.
5. We know you have history, but stop spamming the forum with this junk.
so how did a dog alker find sarah paines body then.

The dog walker in that instance wasn't well known to the victim and in all likelihood, they would have checked him/her out as a matter of course anyway.

The same as it would smell out a dead rabbit - luck. But that is the problem, an untrained dog, would just go off and sniff out anything, the training makes them focus on the thing they are supposed to be looking for and ignore other distractions. A trained dog sniffing out drugs would ignore some lamb chops for instance whereas my dog, would just eat the lamb chops.

I don't understand your point Nugs, my dog passes dead rabbits quite often (I k ow because you can smell them) and he goes nowhere near. should also mention that when a dog walker finds a body, it's not always the dog that find it!

9 times out of 10 its the dog.
it will walk past a dead rabbit if the dead rabbit is not bleeding

No Nugs, that's MY dog who will walk past - other dogs love a dead rabbit. That's the problem on here, too many sweeping statements. How do you know that it's usually the dog that find the body? Where is the proof for that?

im not saying dogs allways will find bodys im saying any dog under the right cercumstances the idea that only fully trained tracker dog can find a body is absurd.

OK, yes, I'd agree with that but it does beg the question about why they thought it necessary to mention tracker dogs in the first place?
