On the afternoon of 12th August 1985 Robert Boutflour went to Witham police station and spoke to PI Miller about the silencer his son David had found at the scene two days earlier. Miller didn't know that the silencer in question had already been in the possession of DCI Jones and DS Jones until the evening of 9th August 1985, when they had returned it the the family. By a quirk of fate DS Jones was on hand at the time of Robert Boutflours comments about the silencer to PI Miller, and pretended that he didn't know anything at all about such a silencer, by declaring 'What Silencer'?

This approach by DS Jones may have been undertaken in the knowledge that DCI Jones had already dealt with the question of the silencer, and it had been returned  to another member of the family (Peter Eaton), a fact which Robert Boutflour, had no input about. The net result was that PI Miller told DS Jones to go and collect that silencer and give it to DI Cook who was due to visit the lab' at Huntingdon on the following day! Hence, why DS Jones went to see Peter Eaton and recovered silencer that he had given to him, three days or so beforehand. Prior to leaving the Eaton residence in possession of the silencer again, Peter Eaton and DS Jones shared a bottle of whiskey..

When DS Jones got back to the police station at Witham that evening he placed the silencer in a locked drawer overnight, and on the following day when he came on duty he handed the silencer over to DI Cook who took it along to the lab' at Huntingdon where Glynis Howard provisionally examined it on 13th August 1985!

When DS Jones handed over the silencer to DI Cook on 13th August 1985, Cook thought that it was the silencer which DS Jones had returned to the scene on the first morning of the police investigation into the shootings when Cook had been in charge of the crime scene. Cook didn't know that the silencer in question had been returned to a family member at the scene on evening 9th August 1985, or that PI Miller had instructed DS Jones to collect the silencer which Robert Boutflour had been talking about, days later...

Hence, why when Cook arrived at the lab' on 13th August 1985, he attached his own exhibit label to the silencer, with the identifying mark 'SJ/1'(22) - Cook informed the COLP investigators that the reason he gave the silencer that identifying mark, was because he didn't know until later that DS Jones had a middle name (Brian), since, he only knew him as DS Stan Jones...

The turning point as far as the second silencer is concerned came at the time of Jeremy's first arrest, and it being confirmed that Jeremy had admitted to burgling the Osea Road, Camp site office and stealing around £900 cash out of the office safe! At about this time, the relatives had a free run of whf, and there must have been some exchange or other between David Boutflour and Anthony Pargeter concerning the whereabouts of the Parker hale silencer belonging to Anthony Pargeters Brno rifle? So, I believe I am right in saying that with Jeremy in custody the relatives went back to the whf and collected the second silencer, which David Boutflour mistaken thought belonged to the Pargeter gun..

Once, Pargeter realized that police had got possession of his silencer, and not the one belonging to the anshuzt rifle. He questioned how come the police had got possession of his silencer? In response, David Boutflour told him that police had given one of the silencers back to the family, then returned to collect the silencer back up again, but that the wrong silencer had been handed back to the police in the confusion!

The upshot in all of this was that David Boutflour contacted the police by telephone to tell them that he had found the silencer to the gun, the anshuzt rifle (11th September 1985), adding that one of his relatives had handed over the wrong silencer a month earlier, belonging to Anthony Pargeters Brno rifle, and his sister Ann Eaton actually handed over the second silencer to the police on that same date..

The relatives in the form of Robert and David Boutflour, and Ann and Peter Eaton found themselves in a controlling position in the knowlege that Police had shot Sheila dead during a training exercise which had gone dramatically wrong, and that police had staged Sheila's death as though she had taken her own life with use of the anshuzt rifle in her possession on her parents bedroom floor!

It was realised at this stage that police had got possession of the wrong Parker Hale silencer, the one belonging to the Pargeter rifle, and that in order to stitch upJeremy for the murders, it would be necessary to swap over the two silencers, so that police ended up with the Parker Hale silencer belonging to the anshuzt rifle, otherwise by the time the matter came to trial Jeremy would know the difference between the newer Parker Hale silencer belonging to his gun, as opposed to the much older one belonging to the Pargeter gun..

Somewhere between 30th August 1985, and 20th September 1985, the two Parker Hale silencers swapped places in order of merit!

Cook had created an unsurpassable problem, by exposing the first silencer 'SJ/1'(22)to super glue treatment on 23rd August 1985. Then, as if that was not bad enough Cook chose to dismantle 'it'. This took place on 29th August 1985, or thereabouts...

I think Jeremy believes that this dismantling process occurred on 28th August1985, whereas, for what it's worth I believe that this activity happened on the day afterwards! It doesn't matter who is right, or wrong because Cook shouldn't have been tampering with the baffle plates inside 'that' silencer (SJ/1,22). Cook was not a scientist, he was just a copper, someone who was clearly prepared to tamper with an item of scientific interest. An item which had the potential to shape the outcome of the trial..

Once Cook dismantled the silencer in police possession, it rendered anything to do with 'that' silencer, worthless - what point was there, or would there have been in sending such a silencer to the lab' thereafter?

Pointless..

And, with this in mind, why would the police submit 'that' silencer 'SJ/1(22) to the lab' under the 'guise of exhibit no. 'DB/1'(23) one day after the day that Cook tampered with that  silencer?
